Thanks,

I have just got back from the local ARB outlet to price some options in preparation for the big trip. PP members you will have to forgive my ignorance - I was unaware of the just how expensive this exercise will be.

To fit and supply a Sahara BB, OME Suspension kit, cargo barrier & snorkel I am looking at $4,700 odd. (The options I had planned was to include a radio, fridge & slides, rear shelving kit of some sort). I know that there are cheaper items about if you look hard enough and have the time....

I may need to carefully select the options which will give the best value, (or get a third job).
At least the PP stickers are outstanding value

Also if ARB are listed on the ASX may need to buy some of those shares.
Happy driving.

Hi Pradopoint memebers,
I have in the last 5 weeks purchased a Prado and I have to say, being the first Toyotal we have purchased am very pleased with the vehicle. I inherited to common issues, ignition key jamming and the good old loss of power (Air flow sensor being replaced on Tuesday). Wasn't really notisable when test driving in the city but once I hooked the float up there was no mistaking the loss of power and it has gradully deteriated, had it into Toyota and the sensor is crook.

Anyways, not a serious off roader but wanted something that didn't get stuck as soon as you pull the float or camper off the black stuff plus the obvious advantages of towing with a 4bie etc. Was going to become the second family truck but after driving it for a while are now considering selling our 97 Statesman International and using the Prado as the primary vehicle. Took a while but decided on a Prado to suit our price range - spent no end of time trying to find a diesel but could only find one under 30 grand and looked as if it had been driven to within metres of its grave by the looks so opted to buy petrol. I have a friend with a 99 Prado v6 3.4(276 thou on the clock) who regurlay drags 1800 kg plus fuel aound the place including up Toowoomba range without to greater difficulty so opted for the petrol and cope with the extra fuel cost under tow. Pretty nice vehicle actually, much more than I expected from a 4WD as my last one was a landie Series II - :-).

Anyway some details:

2000 Prado Grande (White) V6 3.4 Auto 89471 K on the clock
Have fitted Narva Spotties (1 Broad, 1 Pencil), Prodigy Trailer Break. On a budget so peices come slowly - next purchase will be the UHF I reckon.
Factory Tow bar, side steps and Front Bars
Trying to convince the cook into selling the van and buying a camper trailer.

Anyways, great site & source of info for all Prado owners.

Cheers,

Mike (Lowood - West of Brisbane)

Welcome along Boof. We have all been there or are there at the moment. I'm forking out about $3500 I think for Winch Bar, lights and OME. If I was to get a snorkel and a cargo barrier then I would be paying around the $4700. Money well spent for safety and recreation.

Good luck getting out and having fun

Welcome Mike. With a little bit of LAC and a bit of mulla then it sounds like the 2000 will be great fun. Not sure what the older 90 series can pull in total weight, but the 120 with a brake controller can do 2.5t.

Thanks for the welcome team. Well, she goes in tomorrow for the once over to fix the performance issue. Have advised to replace the Air Flow Sensor and test the others - just want this fixed as I have the had the ignition key issue sorted and jsut want the performance I would expect form the Prado. Apart from that the vehicle is suppurb. I see a few posts about cruise control on this model but compared to the Statesman it is fantastic, nice placement on the wheel and function easy to utilise.

I don't expect the same fuel economy as the Stateman ( avg 9.4 / 100, 70 / 30 country / town) but I would hope I can get near the 12 - 13 on open rd.

Anyways, tomorrow will tell. Once I have results will post to more relative Subject.

Hi all, I have recently purchased a 2nd hand Prado and so far really liking it. Was actually looking for a Subaru Forester XT as I needed a vehicle since loosing my company car. This just happened to be traded in less than a week and let me drive it for a week. Got hooked and now itsa mina. It's mainly going to be a get to work and home vehicle during the week and my part-time business vehicle during the weekend. Hopefully get to use this vehicle to get off the beaten track and do some real 4x4ing slowly but surely. Would show pictures but I update the phone firmware and wiped all my photos I had so have to take some new ones.

Model: GX
Year: 2004
Colour: Dune / Champagne (as the Mitsi Outlander I had and the Subaru Outback the wife drives)
Accessories: Already on car: Roof Racks, side steps, electronic brake controller, floor mats
Added: window tint
Wishlist: New diesel motor (well it is a wish list)

Here are a number of things I will be adding/performing over the next few weeks: Polaris replacement headunit with reverse camera, Toyota Phoenix Wheels, colour coding the rear bumper, colour coding the front bumper or Toyota powder coated bullbar, electronic rustproofing (already has some rust appearing on some stonechips on the bonnet), paint protection, carpet clean, fabric protection.
2004 Gold GX

What I Have: Tinted windows, cruise control, electronic brake controller, Polaris 3119 replacement headunit and rear camera, HID headlights, LED upgrade for doors, rear license plate and parking lights.

Items available in the vendor's section at members prices.
