Great looking rig Prado 04. I am certain you will enjoy the upgrade.

Thanks for the welcome Fazza, I cannot wait till I get the new VX. It's going to be a big month for me in Nov what with the new baby and all.

I may be able to get a deep sea charter in whilst the wife is in hospital, got to go fishing it is a passion of mine.

I have not had the chance to test drive the diesel Prado but I did drive the petrol one at our local dealership and I was impressed by it. However I really want a diesel and loong range to get past the extorshonist roadhouses along the Stuart HWY. Too many times I have had to buy petrol from them and their prices are out of this world for any kind of fuel.

              Hi All!

I've recently signed the dotted line for an August Production GX Prado. Doing some on line research I've ended up finding this forum and have to say that it's been one of the best sources of information I've yet found. You all seem like an affable bunch so I'm saying hello.

So what led me to sign the dotted Prado line?

I'm from WA and am currently living in Perth. I was a wheat farmer in years past and have always driven 4WD's, apart from a few years with a Holden WB one tonner. I do not like smaller cars. I just don't feel safe in them.... simple as that. For the last 8 years or so I've been driving a 1988 2.8L Diesel Hilux tray back. The poor girl has done her innings with around 400K on the clock now. To all those who've come up behind a road train doing 90k's and not been able to do a damn thing about it I feel your pain. The most frustrating part would be an uphill overtaking lane........ useless with the old Lux. Putting my foot down at 90 odd wouldn't do a lot. Nevertheless, my Hilux has basically been unbreakable in every other respect. It has NEVER broken down on me. Absolutely NEVER.

So, what to replace it with? Well something with a few more herbs for a start. I wanted turbo diesel, I wanted manual. I wanted no friggin BULL#2's. Those few criteria whittled the list down quite brutally. What came out in the end with any credibility was 1) Holden Jackaroo, or 2) Toyota Prado. Simple as that. Landcriuser and Patrol were really too big for what I wanted. Now IF a good 03 - 04 Jackaroo had come up for around 25K, things may well have been different as they really aren't bad for what you pay. Plus those Isuzu engines really get good write up's. However, Holden canned them in 2004 and not a lot seem to come up for sale with low K's just now. So I was left with the Prado. The only one left standing after the battle had been fought. Far Far more than I really wanted to spend and that is really their only down side, they are over priced.

I was really right on the limit of what I could afford and even stood up to leave when talking with the sales guy here in Perth saying "sorry mate, But I just can't spend that much". Well that made him knock $1500 off the price! Good tactic prospecive buyers might note. Makes you wonder though ... Exactly how much more could the guy have knocked off??

So at the risk of rambling too much I finally ask if anyone has a Flinders Red Prado pic they can show me. Just in case I chose the wrong colour.

Congratulation's, Re the ordering of a New D4D & Welcome to Pradopoint.
I am sure you have made the right choice.

I have heard of a few Jackaroo's that have had major issues with their fuel injection system. Like the leaking of fuel past the injectors & into the sump, to the point where the oil/fuel mixtures is forced past the piston rings on the down stoke & into the combustion area. This cause the engine to run on uncontrollably, to the point of destruction, unless you can block off the air intake in time.

Now for the long wait, it will be worth it.

Hi Fazza. Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah I'm looking forward to pick up day. However I don't think that will be until October. Hope my Lux will hang together for that long. It's going to be really wierd going from an old noisy Lux straight into a Prado. Still .... I'll get used to it.

Yup that Jackaroo fault with the bad injectors is true. My Brother has an 03 Jackaroo SE and had that happen. It just took off uncontollably on his way to work one day. Luckily the effect didn't last and he was able to park it and get it to Holden for repairs. Holden did actually put out a recall notice and now put a sticker inside the drivers door for all Jackaroos that have been in for the recall. Once the issues are sorted they are a solid unit. Heaps of power in those Isuzu engines. He also had trouble with fuel getting into the wiring harness causing a fire hazard. Holden did NOT pay for that one though. When all said and done, I think Prado's are definitely a level above.

                    Hi Iron-Paww

Welcome aboard, I currently have a D4D 6 speed and you wont be disappointed and I don't think they are overpriced at all. You are getting what you pay for with no fuss and no bullshit. Mine has just clicked over 20K and is averaging around 9.7L/100km but I also have a ARB winch bar and winch fitted, which adds around 90kg's to the front.

Don't know about your choice of colours though as I have found that darker colours for me in the past have really shown up the scratches once venturing off road. I tend to stick with lighter colours (silver or white) as scratches do not seem to show up as easily.

Anyway you should have a lot of fun, I do and after being in Hiluxes, rodeos, pajeros and patrols (still have one) I know which is best value for money and the cheapest to operate.

                    Good luck

                                G'Day to all,

I'm Gretta, nickname Lacey (bit of a story with that), Big Fella's wife. I am very lucky getting a brand new Prado and can't wait to take delivery. It will be worth the wait no matter how long. I love my current Prado, so if the new one is anything like that, I'll be more than happy. I've already been to ARB to give them a "heads up" on what I want added to the car and have so far theoretically spent around $5000 to start with.
I've enjoyed reading the forum over the last week and decided I should join. It's a great source of information. Look forward to reading more and adding my 2 cents worth as well.

                                Gretta
