Welcome to the forum Boomer. Nice to have another Adelaideian. What colour did you get and do you what direction on the compas are you to be found? There are a few of us out west but seems like a lot out North East and a splatterning down south.

        Hi All!

New to the forum so this looks like the best place to start! First the important stuff:

        Model: 120 Series Prado (3.0L t/d)
        Year: 2005
        Colour: Silver
Accessories: 2inch OME lift, ARB roofrack with 2.5x2m awning (and holds the rooftop tend pretty well!), dual battery, snorkel, Alloy bar, hella driving lights, GME UHF and arial, Cooper Discoverer AT/R tyres and factory long range tank.
Wishlist: ARB Deluxe front bar and a winch. Fridge and a more agressive set of All-Terrains.

Bought the vehicle at Easter this year and have added the suspension, racks & UHF. Its my first 4WD and I smitten with it! We spent most of October this year travelling through Central Oz. The Oodnadatta Track was a mudslide and we just made it out after a few spins and slight bogs (tyres struggled - even at 18psi) and after the road closures stared to get widespread we decided to cut the trip short and we drove from Alice to Melb in 2 days. The best part was that after 2000km's in 2 days I hardly felt like I had been in the car! Pretty comfy!

Plans for the next trip are underway, we are taking on Cape York! Cannot wait!

Hey all just joined up. I am Ken from Ayr North Queensland and have owned 4wd's for most of my life. I have had 2x FJ55 wagons, 2x FJ45 SWB cruisers (even a left hand drive 76 model) a twin cab hilux, a 1991 80 Series turbo diesel, and now the proud owner of a 2005 Prado, turbo diesel, automatic which the wife and I picked up 2 days ago. I have done quite a bit of 4wding over my time including N.S.W. ski fields, outback NT, Far North Queensland (including the Old Telegraph Track and Gunshot Creek). Hope to pick up some useful info on the Prado's and learn a bit more about them.

                    • Re: Introductions

                      Hi,

I am returning to Australia after 2 years in Middle East.

I joined this website in order to begin researching my choice of vehicle for when I get home in March 2011.

Have previously owned 2 x Mitsubishi Challenger, which are nothing fancy but served my purposes nicely however I want a few more bells and whistles. And a bit more grunt.

I travel to the Snowy Mountains, usually once a month, to indulge my love of fly fishing so my off roading is fairly much limited to fire trails and shallow mountain creek crossings.

Also, I will be towing and launching a tinnie at times.

A 7 seater appeals as I have three young grandsons.

Here in the ME I am paying 24cents per litre for petrol so I am scared at the prospect of once again paying Australian prices, therefore the idea of LPG is very appealing. I will search the site for posts on this subject however I wonder if I am being a little too fixated on the dual fuel issue. Feedback welcome!

I am also researching Patrol and Pajero as options.

                      So, my search paramenters are:

                      c. 2005 model (will probably do novated lease, so there is a 10 year age limit at lease end)
LPG (preferably already fitted, but not a neccesity)
                      7 seats
                      Around $30k

                      So, there you have it.

                      Cheers
                      BD

Been lurking for a while and thought it was time I intro'd myself.
Planning to buy a Prado in next few months. Main uses will be combined daily ride + camping/touring (so lots of mods planned). Definitely D4D Auto - most likely GX as I don't want extra seats and other GXL 'goodies' don't seem worth the extra $$ and reduced storage in rear when 3rd row of seats removed and take up space in shed. Biggest issue will be trying to get wider wheels included in original purchase for immediate tyre upgrade to BFGs.
Enjoying the forum and really like the extended rig builds - some great tips for mods and accessories.
Hope to put mine up when I finally bite the bullet
                        Cheers

Model: 2006 120 Series GXL turbo diesel, 4 speed auto.
Purchased October 2010 with 72000km on the speedo.
Fitted with: ECB nudge bar, dual battery system plus Anderson plug link to van battery, GME 3440 UHF radio, small recovery kit (snatch strap, bow shackles, hitch receiver), Toyota tow bar, Maxxis Bravo A/Ts.
Wish list: Polyairs, Engel 40L fridge, Polaris GPS/DVD system with Oziexplorer and Hema maps, recovery points for the front that actually fit when a nudge bar is in the way.

Main purpose is for touring with our pop-top van (plus shopping trolley duties), but have plans for a Simpson Desert crossing in September this year and Cape York in the not too distant future - before fuel prices get too much more prohibitive.
