          • Hello everyone, I've been reading this forum sometimes and found quite a few answers for my 120 as well as for my mates 90 Prado.

            Model: J120 Prado VX, 1GR-FE 4.0L
            Year: 2008
            Colour: Pearl White
Accessories: Minor body addons, such as wind deflectors etc.
Wishlist: Upgrade some features for own convinience.

Basically I have a Pearl White J120 Prado, that was bought from new in Kuwait in 2008 and brought to my homecountry. This is a quite often proceedure here, so was no problem there. The engine is 4.0L 1GR-FE V6. The car did not have any major upgrades, however I put wind deflector on the bonnet for the looks, and deflectors on sidewindows, so that I can open windows when its raining. I also put chrome caps on door handles to distinguish my car from many others around (believe me you wont see so many prados in any part of the world, like it is here). And the last convinience was, that I put windscreen nozzles from a Hilux Surf (from Lexus GX470 fits as well) and now I have a drizzle washer instead of two randomly pointed jets on my windscreen.

                • Hi all fellow Pradoers, as a matter of showing good manners I introduce myself and our new Prado.

We are based in Brisbane and love to go out camping around the Brisbane region (4-6 hrs out). Lots of great 4x4 driving incl. beach and bush. The GXL was ordered about 3 weeks ago and should be here within another 4 or so.

                  This is the new beast.......

                  Model: GXL TD Auto
                  Year: 2012
                  Colour: White
                  Price: $60K drive-away
Accessories: None yet as it just increases the LCT
Wishlist (getting it immediately after delivery): roofrack (powerful 4x4), uhf (GME), gas/elec fridge (WAECO), 5x D697LTs

Can't wait to get out there again with my sons. Looking forward to learning heaps from this forum. Cheers, a HappyCamper

                  • G'day all,
Been lurking here for a while and joined to do some research on Prados. Well Saturday evening I picked up a new to us Prado.

                    Model: KZJ120R Grande
                    Year:2006
                    Color: Silver
                    Price:$32700
Accessories: ARB Deluxe winch bar, tow bar, electronic rust protection, snorkel, Lightforce 140 driving lights, 2.5" Beaudesert exhaust, full service history.

Only issue was, I am in Western Sydney and the vehicle was in Adelaide. Got a diesel mechanic and 4WD expert mate of mine to give it the once over and when he said "if I was looking for one I would not hesitate to get this one" well the deal was done. I flew over with my eldest daughter, picked the vehicle up and did the road trip home. The previous owner was fastidious. Even filled the tanks full for diesel for us and stocked the cooler with coke and the glovebox with Lollies for our road trip home. Bloody nice guy and I couldn't have asked for an easier, more stress free transaction.

On the way home I met my parents in Mildura (first time I had seen them in 12 months as I have only just returned frovations overseas for 7 months) and dad brought along a new Electrophone TX3340 UHF with AE409L aerial, plus and ARB battery tray. He got them for me with a very nice discount from the Wimmera Field days. Went to fit it after I got home tonight and found the kick panel on the Prado isn't as easy to get off as it is on my Hunjy. So instead I just washed it, to make sure it was clean before the wife got home from work. It is after all her car as I have a 1998 Hunjy with just a few mods (SIC)!!!

I am not allowed to lift this, put bigger types on (already comes with Hankook AT's- which will be replaced with Goodyear Duratracs when they die) winch etc. About all I will be doing is fitting the UHF, second battery, bunch of plugs and powered USB ports for the kids iPods etc outlet for the Engel in the back, an electronic brake controller and Andersen plug. Oh yeah I am sure I can sneak a power module in there without her knowing. Hiding the $1000+ missing from the bank account might be another issue though!!! This week I will also change ALL the fluids and give the radiator a flush. Even though it has a full service history I am a bit anal with my servicing and will change them all just so I know we are starting from a clean slate.

The reason we wanted a Prado was the Astra was no good at towing the motorbike trailer! We want to go camping with the bikes and the camper trailer, so to get the bikes to the same place as the camper another 4WD was needed. It was only ever going to be a Prado ( we did look at Pajero's and Pathfinders but after driving them, there simply is no comparison to the Toyotas). And the wife likes her luxury, so it had to be the Grande. We would have liked a D4D but couldn't stretch the budget.

The drive home certainly got to know the vehicle and the longer I drove it the more I know we have made a great decision. When the wife got home she jumped and and took it for a drive for about and hour and she loves it as well. So all round we are very happy. Now we just need to sell the Astra. anyone want a well cared for 2005 AH Astra? <Grin>

                    Cheers
                    CB

P.S. I am in Western Sydney near Penrith so if anyone wants to get together to compare Prados and educate me some more on things to look out for on 120 series I would be more than happy to provide a beverage or three!

I take delivery of my new Kakadu in two weeks from now and very much looking forward to it.
Traded a Lexus ISF (5L V8 performance model) for the practicality of a Prado as my every day driver that suits my hobbies more.
Our 2003 Prado Grande has been terrific and we have had many memorable adventures with it. It is also my "other halfs" daily driver, so would have to work around her commitments to tow the boat etc.

We have no plans to sell the 2003 model at the moment. We will see. Might be a bit strange to some but we do not have children and still have these vehicles probably more suited to families. Well, we love them for their off-road capability, safety, towing, reliability and luxury finish.

Looking forward to contributing more to the forum.

                            Hi Grazer05

Nope! Not strange at all. Perfectly understandable, I mean who wouldn't have two prados in their garage?

I know I would, as they would have to be one of the most comfortable vehicles on the road & off.

Just a pity that they cost so much.

                            Welcome to PP

                            • Hi All,

I've been a lurker for some time while i made my decision on a replacement vehicle for my V8 Calais. Wife had a Rav 4 previously and it has been in places offroad that it should never had went, however, had great fun doing it!

So it was time to get a "Real" 4wd. After testing everything on the market, i took delivery of my 2012 4L Petrol Silver Pearl Kakadu last week.

Have now driven 700km and can't wait to take it offroad. I was told by dealer that it should really be run in for the first 1000km before any offroad (Soft Sand) driving or towing (2t boat). So watching the Km's closely each trip and edging ever so close now! can't wait to try her out on the beach with all the fancy 4wd electronics (multi-terrain select and crawl) to see if they work as well as expected.

My garage space is really limited (3cm height and 30cm length) so my planned mods are really limited. Current accessories are just Tint (front windows), Towbar (toyota genuine), rubber floor mats, and a "HoldmyPhone" windscreen mount and iPhone holder (really happy with it). I also plan to fit whispbar roof racks on existing rails (due to limited height) and a dual battery setup eventually to run a waeco fridge. I have also ordered a set (6) of rear tie downs from Pelican Parts (thanks to the info on this forum).

Look forward to being a contributor on the forums

                              Cheers
