LED Light plugs

Sorry to upset you but may not be the simple excersize you think.

A LED requires about 1.2V to light properly, the leds in the string are therefore
wired in series/parallel combinations to get the required operating voltage.

You will need to detemine how this has been done and if it is possible to cut
them into strips.

Regarding plugs, any mini DC power plugs/sockets available from Jaycar for
example can be used as the current draw will be very little.

These LED strips use a Hybrid LED, actually multiple LEDs in the 1 surface mount package. The strip is actually designed to be cut usually every 3 LEDs and take 12v directly.

Also I have used these Dimmers they work very well and are very efficient, as you dim the light the power used drops, to the point that you can't measure the current when the LEDs are off.
I also found these Remote Dimmers but I'm yet to try them. I'm still in the planning stage of wiring my Camper for 12v, but will need to pull my finger out as the scholl hols are coming fast!!

If you are still undecided on connectors have a look at Anderson powerpoles. You can get them in a variety of current capacities. The pos and neg clip together, the connectors are self wiping. I use them on the solar connection and National Luna use them for the 12V supply to their fridges. Different colours beyond red and black. Cheap too.

They are a bit smaller than a cig lighter plug
An interesting thing the guy at Jaycar told me was that the string of LED's , which can be extended by pluging in another string of LED's (plugs on each end) need the power input from one end only as they have built in diodes and the wont work if powered from the wrong end.Somthing to consider when cutting the string in to shorter lengths

These I think are the same as my outlets. They are also referred o as Hella-type plugs unless I am getting confused. My camper is a challenger and has 4 outlets

So I decided to pull my finger out of my ar3e and look at wiring up the camper.
First step how am I going to manage all the wires so I decided to buy one of these

I got some 6b&s and threaded that through the chasis to the back of the trailer where I am going to mount the fuse panel.
Now just to wait until it arrives so the fun can start

Don't forget to maintain correct polarity as LEDs will not operate if you get it wrong. Reverse your wiring immediately if they don't come on.

I decided to go this way too. I wish there was a way of taking a picture showing how intense my new 600SMD led lights are. I am extremely happy. My camper has the merit connections but I wired normal cig plugs with adapters so I can use on normal car cig plugs etc.

If your camera has manual mode, use that. Otherwise, bump up the exposure compensation.

Finally made up 2 of 4 LED lights. Cheap to make and should do the trick. They are DAMN BRIGHT!
