  • if toyota scratched your brand new bullbar...

I took the new prado in for a service at Toyota, and they checked the vehicle over with me before hand to ensure there was no damage, of which there was none.

I've noticed now that there is a scrape on my bullbar, through the powdercoat down to the steel. a thin graze maybe 100mm long and 4mm wide.

I questioned them about it and the guys only response was "well, it is a bullbar" and "I'd think it would take a substantial scrape to do that".

He's looking into it for me, but I'm not to sure what to do, its not worth replacing a whole bullbar for one tiny scrape, you cant powdercoat just a tiny section of the bar, and I don't want to lose my car for a few days while they fix it.

What do you think would be an appropriate solution?

Really I want to tell myself to harden up, and it is only a bullbar, but it happens to be a brand new bullbar, on a brand new vehicle, and I feel they should be held accountable for the damage.

If Toyota dont come good in the end - go direct to your nearest powder coater. they should sell spraycans of touch up paint in exact colour match for the range of powders they use.

Advise them you will be writing up the occurence on this forum and good luck to them with the lost business because they are arseholes. It is rare for someone to complain and persist without just cause. If the cost of fixing the problem is too high for them to do the right thing, then you enforcing your rights and letting the world know will see them suffer a greater opportunity cost or more significant cost in lawyer fees trying to shut you up.

I'll see what they come back, its a bit of a bullsh!t situation... I love the standard response though, " I'm sure someone would have said something if they had caused the damage"

...I'm pretty sure they wouldn't. haha.

As a boy aged 11 I found a wad of cash. A payroll to be exact that was dropped by a lady in a supermarket. The value was $3,000 plus dollars about 34 years ago (so close to $250k in todays dollars). Of course I handed it in to the counter. For my honesty I got a call from the very appreciative lady saying she would send a reward. I got sweet F.A.

Would I do it again, NO F&*KING WAY! Just like the guy that risks getting in so much trouble for scratching your bar would not open his mouth unless the shift superviser saw him do it on purpose.

Accept nothing less than the condition the car was when it went in. A touch up simply will not do, bullbar or no bullbar. Would anyone accept a touch up with a rattle can or brush on a similar type and size of damage, cause that is what it is - damage, on a door or gaurd, no I didn't think so. I would be requesting, not demanding, that a standard plastic bumper be fitted whilst they remove the bullbar for repair or if they won't do that then a courtesy car of similar style ie no Yaris.

I found a scratch on the paintwork after my car was in for repair.
I questioned the service bloke on 'what has happened here?
The next question was 'was the scratch there previously?'
                  I replied 'definitely not!'
The service manager was called and they took note of it and accepted responsibility, the red paint gave it away (probably from a tool roller chest).
Anyway, they had the scratch removed (by an outside contractor), and is now as good as new.
Still not impressed. More care needs to be taken on vehicles entrusted in their care.
Stick by your guns...tell them it is their responsibility to have it fixed. No need to theaten them initially, just go higher in the organisation.

The story on my old mans car was a passer by keyed it in the service centres carpark. Noones fault, but it was in the possession of the service centre. They were the ones who told him about it, as well as a courtesy car whilst it was repaired. He was told that they have insurance that covers these things and if it isn't repaired to his satisfaction as the car was literally on it's first ever service their insurance would evenreplace the entire car. Repairs were no worries, couldn't tell at all even when looking for it in numerous different light. A week later someone threw an egg at his car. Egg eats paint!!

Why don't people like others having nice things??

will definitely be pushing them then... on another note, toyota seat covers for 150 series are a bit poo, they're so tight that every time i sit on them the seam splits a little more (being replaced under warranty)

Well at least they're doing the right thing for you about the seat covers. As far as the bullbar goes, keep asking for the supervisor, then ask for the supervisors supervisor and so on. Main thing is (easier said than done sometimes) is keep your cool

They have to fix the damage that has been done to the bar, they are responsible for your vehicle while they have it, if the service manager starts to play hardball, go to the sales manager, if that dont work, go to the dealer principle, if that don't work, there is always the police.

service manager looked at damage this morning, didn't question it, and is going to have it repaired to new... what that entails i'm not sure, but will see what happens.

Is this Peter Kittle? If so, looks like they are improving on their customer service side of things.
