    PradOZ,
To answer your question ... yes, and as others have done, I replaced the gearbox grease and "resealed the seals" on both ends. I also painted all the electical connections with an insulation paint. I understand your financial predicament and agree with your logic. Any working winch is better than no winch at all if and it saves you once, it was worth the money.
The only thing I suggest is to do as I have, and relocate the solenoids to under the bonnet. I think by doing this you will possibly prolong their life. I rewired the 3way selection switch ( wireless/off/hand control ) to inside the cab and relocated the hand control socket to the bullbar. This works for me.

That is bloody funny and true... That comment has made my week. Simple things in life.

Is that because they float away?...Like an ice cream stick when you chuck it in the water?

I am picking up my Avenger winch this week. But I will pull it apart and pack it with marine bearing grease...(if it stuffs up its under warranty for 3 years I think. After that I may look at a Warn).

And I will also pick up my battery tray that I paid $150 for. EDIT: Turns out it was the price for a TJM tray.
TJM wanted $195. So far on the net I have found it for $165 free postage.

Buy a hand winch. After using it the once I'll garantee you'll never get stuck again.
                Cheers

We bought an Aldi winch the last time they were on sale about 14 months ago. Used it twice on the first trip, once to pull a fully loaded Troopie back onto its wheels after it rolled onto its side. Worked perfectly. The one on sale this week appears to be different in a number of ways to the one we purchased.

I fully agree with that remark.

I thought that too. It looks very differnet to the last one that I had.

The deed is done. A family member picked it up for me and I will report back when I check it out after work.

Just making the point that the winch looks like it may have been sourced from a different manufacturer than the last batch.
I have know idea if they are better or worse, just that they look different to the last ALDI winch that I had.

I couldn't agree more with the idea that you buy what you can afford, I bought a T-Rex winch 13,000lb with synthetic rope for 400 dollars. I know the build quality is not as good as warne but least now I have a winch and I can get myself stuck with a bit of confidence.

Well I got the winch and I've measured it as being just over 40Kgs while still in the box. Once mounted the clutch lever will be at the back if I leave it, but I may have to rotate the gearbox so the clutch lever is on top.

I'll have to take some measurements and see if the lever is going to foul on the A/C condenser or anything else.
