  • Bathurst 1000 2011

    Hi all,
I am lucky enough to live in Bathurst and still go and camp in the in-field of the race track for the 1000km race in Oct.

Just wondering if any PradoPointers are coming to the race this year??? (2011) As I would be keen to catch up for a can or two and a chat etc....anyone interested???

    Cheers
    Nigel

Hi Nigel, can't make the Race as I will be in QLD for the PP GTG, I was thinking about heading home via Bathurst and doing a lap around the track, how long after the race before it is open to the public?

      Cheers Andrew

          G'day Andrew,
For about 8 years I went to the mountain and camped with all the idiots and every year the track is open pretty much straight away and we always drove it on the way home on the Monday so you should be right.

          Cheers

Would love to go this year, especially with like-minded Prado owners.
I would need details on camping arrangements, as I do not want to be kept awake all night by the hoons.
                  Please advise.

Yeah the track is pretty much open within about 1/2 hr of the finish of the race....so definately by the following friday.

I camp in the infield behind the pits which is a "family friendly" with a bunch of like minded alcoholic mates...yay!!! All the roudy-ness that is always reported about bathurst happens at the top of the mountain and has had a severe attack by the fun-police in the last few years so compared to even 5 years ago is pretty much tame.

It is a top weekend/event. One of my mates who comes every year isnt even a car racing/v8 fan he just likes getting away from the ball and chain for a few days (as we all do).

The only rule for my camp site is no wives and no kids!!!! They can visit during the day but definately no overnights!!!

                        Cheers

Top of the mountain Mumsrig....nice. I will warn you of how the fun police control things up there...incase you havent heard already....they are VERY strict up there on grog volumes being taken into the area....1 carton per person per day, that doesnt mean if there is 1 person for 4 days that you can take in 4 cartons....they expect you to go out into town each day and can only bring 1 carton in with you per person. Also the last 3 or 4 years they have had sniffer dogs that they send through your car/camper etc looking for fire works drugs etc. Any excess grog they find they confiscate and you are supposed to get back at the end of the weekend but I have heard that this often goes missing. Also no glass bottles allowed....no stubbies no flagons no bottles of spirits etc

That is not to say that will be the same this year but it seems they are getting tighter every year!!! They is probably a page on the v8 supercars that lists these conditions and they have in the past been very strict!!!

Other than that it is a fr!ggen top week.....hope to see you there

                              Cheers
