I took out a cover note with Jason's Insurance company and I was quoted $1100 and I lapsed by a day and I called to pay today, they increased it by another $100, so they told me ,it was my bad!!,So went to AAMI ,they insured it for $727,thus saved me $473.

That's a good price from AAMI. I pay $950 incl GST per year with NRMA and I'm a rating 1 for life and have been with them for 14 years. I still have my no claim discount even though making an insurance claim for the first time in 11 years just a couple of months ago. But the crappy thing is anyone new to NRMA gets a better price than I'll ever get.... and I'm the one who's been loyal to them for all these years. Since I've just made a claim I'll wait a little while before jumping ship, but I'll definitely leave and go to another reputable mob that don't charge like a wounded bull.

NRMA Insurance is only 11 years old since demutualization and they have nothing to do with NRMA Motoring Services who I've been with 34 years. They are not as good as they used to be. They are just trading off the good name of the road service pretending to be the same company. I get a similar better price from AAMI and also with other policies.

          Cheers Jim

I think it all comes down to the excess in the policy... AAMI has a flexi excess (something like that) which doubles your excess payment and that reduces your premium.

Allianz online price around $570 for my new GXL with $550 excess. That's market value but they have a new car replacement policy if your car is a total loss and less than two years old so no point in agreed value IMO. No extras like protected rating one or hire car or windscreen etc. That won't send me broke so happy to where that risk. I've checked with them and policy covers you any where in Oz where you're legally allowed to be there. I asked about 4wd parks and she said she believed so....I'll check again before I go to any.

My excess with RACV was $1000, whereas with AAMI its $720, and both the policy had $50 extra for windscreen cover!!

I wish more of you people would insure with the NRMA.
I was got some IAG [parent company] shares when they demutalised and though i might sell them oneday when their value raised and i might buy some goodies for the Prado with the funds, but at current value they are just not worth selling. But if more people insured with them ,if we stop having floods and fires then i might be able to get a locker or 2. By the way i insure all my cars, houses etc thru GIO ,always cheaper.

every year when my policy needs to be renewed I allways shop around to see if there is a better deal then go back to the company and give them the option to match the policy and price or I will go else where, not once has a company matched the price a few times the policy I am with has turned out to be in the ball park after I get a few quotes. But it allways pays to check on each renewal.

I do the same thing fishfinder.

I am with GIO, and the few times I have found cheaper comparable insurance, they have dropped their price to match.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

I'd recommend to all that they read their policy wording and not just focus on price. Each wording IS different and if you're even been told your Insurer will match the policy you've been misinformed.

You do get what you pay for (in most instances anyway) but its up to you to read the policy to see if the cover suits you.
