    Hey all
Im looking at winches (again )at the moment and for the same money I can get the following.
    All brand new:

    Tigerz11, 12,000lbs with synth rope

Avenger Mako 9,500lbs with synth rope

Warn M8000, 8000lb with steel cable

Surprisingly the Avenger is the most expensive.
The Warn next and the Tigerz 11 the cheapest.

Im tempted to get the Warn but Im not sure if the M8000 is big enough for a loaded Prado???

Opinions appreciated as I need to make a decision quickly if Im going to get the Warn for that price.

If it were me Marc, I would get the Mako.

A mate of mine has had one for ages, and they are a good unit, with a high duty cycle. It is lighter than most as well, and as tested last year through 10 or more deep water crossings on a trip through Vic alpine area, holds out the water well.
I can't comment on the dynamica rope, as his has the steel cable.

As far as winch power ratings go.... I am a big believer of multi line pulls using a snatch block/blocks for anything really heavy/stuck.

I wouldn't be fooled into thinking the M8000 is anything special. I am told they are made in China to a price, and not USA where thier good winches are made.

Warne 9000 is made in China. I have one and nothing about it impresses me, especially the steel cable which is buggered after my first use.....

Go the Tigers 11, never had a problem with mine, and they are built correctly for synthetic rope.
97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

          Well thats interesting!
I didnt think the Warn 8000 was partly or wholly Chinese!
It does seem like old tech though and probably not rope compatible.
I know the Tabor 9000 (I think its called that) is a bit nasty and Chinese and I wouldnt touch one of those.

A mate has a Premier and has been flogging that for 7 years without any issues but they too are expensive.

So it looks like there is good Chinese and crap Chinese, just got to find the good

So that leaves the Avenger and the Tigerz 11, 12000 or 9000????

What about the Runva winches, anybody know about those, they have huge motors for their size and are about the same price as the Tigerz 11.

I do like the idea of 12,000 but only because it would eat anything I could throw at it happily without cracking a sweat but then again so would the 9,000????

The Mako has the brake mounted on the end of the gearbox.... not in the drum, which makes it suitable for synthetic rope. Synthetic rope breaks down above 150 deg.
Also, parts are readily available for the Mako.
I don't know anyone with a Tigerz11 winch, but read somewhere that a popular club uses them, and they rave about them, considering the price difference over Warn winches.

            Choices choices...

              Isn't bigger better!!!!
Unless you talk about current draw.....lol
I'm using my Tigers 11 safely on one battery, the others I cant vouch for that as I know the current draw is much higher (under load).

I may be being a little harsh but the 9000 couldn't winch a baby out of its cradle. Like I said, I am not really impressed by its performance and would not buy it again. Most of all I am disappointed that Warne make cheap and normal versions. The 9000 is a cheap version and therefore overpriced in my book.

You can get back to designing my rear bar I want LED globes that look nice and bright, must accomodate my reversing camera and my distinctive number plate (square design), dual tyres etc etc. also spots for guns and oil dropping unit would be an added bonues just in case Ondaboat is following me....

Mate you're only upset because the warn let you down on that big dune and Andrew's tigerz got him up and over.

Dont be too sad, he was much closer to the top (no extension strap needed) in the first place - apparently the white 120's have more grunt up the dunes...
                          Cheers
