  • Jayco Expanda thoughts??

Hi all, my wife has decided now that we have a baby and combined with the two older kids it would be nice to have our own shower and toilet in the van. Jayco expanders do a model that suits but I have heard mixed reports on the expanders, I would be looking at a 2008-2010 model. Hard part is we have a 2007 Windsor rapid off road that is well built and has been great but it lacks the shower and dunny. I can accept slightly less quality but don't want a pile of junk that leaks like a sieve .....any thoughts?

i would prefer the rapid myself. if you do off road stuff, can you set up a shower unit in a compartment on the side/back somewhere with a pop up tent thingy around it. i know its another thing to set up but if you are happy with your current van/arrangement especially storage then i would be trying to modify it to suit. you can get double pop ups for wc and shower set ups, and if your shower was built into side of van with a hws fitted it would be good set up for off road stuff.

in van parks you can always book into ensuite sites like we do. the extra space in their ensuites for storage is a bonus then too and you dont have the worry about cleaning, water supply etc

if you change vans remember its another thing to maintain and clean etc too and you know who gets that job good luck with it

Hi KAKADAZ, the jayco expanda is a great idea and they work a treat, just be mindful when inspecting a secondhand one to check the base floor of each end especially the front as this is where the water will get in if it leaks. We owned one for a while and the expanda gives you all the van as useable space as no bed in the way and with the toilet and shower it all worked a treat. We have since upgraded to a new Jayco discovery outback (offroad) poptop caravan due to its ground clearance dual axles toilet and shower etc.

            Good luck with your search.

I looked into this and did some maths a while ago as while the missus loves the goldstream she would also like a shower toilet however when i pointed out that there would be about a 10k increase as to what we had and at an average of $35 dollars a night for a powered site with toilet and shower that would mean we would have to free camp for 285 nights to make the difference back.

In the end we decided to stick with what we have
