  • My accessory belt popped out

I was driving at about 40km/h today in the 150 when I had to do a quick swerve to avoid a brick on the road.
After that the battery light was on, aircond light was flashing. I opened the bonnet and found that the accessory belt popped out.
Can I easily put this back by myself, or is this a dealer job?

This is surprising as I expected the Prado to be able to handle that swerve with ease.

Those belts aren't suppose to fall off, I would suspect there are other issues involved.

I've found that if I need to ask how to do something, its generally a good idea to get someone else to do it for me.

        I found it!

Sunday morning, thought I would try to put the belt back so I could bring the car to the dealer.

There was not a lot of room in there, but it was doable, and there was a routing diagram on the airbox. There were plenty of instructions on Google, and some details on Pradopoint. It is better known as the Serpentine belt.

There are four types of belt arrangement for the Prado 150, and it clearly states that type 2 and 4 are for European models.

I routed the belt around, looked like this is a type 1, with alternator, radiator fan, aircond, the engine crank shaft, two pulleys and a tensioner pulley. I could route the belt through most, but was struggling finding the last pulley.

Was trying to look from left, right, top, then it clicked to me, I probably lost one pulley! So I went looking under the engine bay, and here it is:

So for some reason the pulley was hanging very loose, and the swerve yesterday caused it to totally detach itself, causing the belt to pop out. Looks like there is no obvious damages anywhere.

I am taking it back to the dealer tomorrow, do you know if Toyota will be willing to pick the car up as this is clearly a warranty issue?

I am glad I found this out now, rather than in the middle of nowhere. Spare Pulley is not something anyone would be carrying around .
