In a 40 series, personally I would be looking for a good body and chassis, with poor running gear.
I hate body repairs. Engine repairs (well, I'd put in a different motor maybe) are no worries.

a couple of my mates rebuilt a 40 trayback from the ground up . drove nice as far as 40's go , but i wouldn't want to own one as a daily driver . i know 2 mates who have owned them , both are 6ft4 plus an 115 kgs both reckon they are hideous without power steering ,apparently there is only one model with power steering, thats the one with the 5 speed box . so the boys had to buy a wrecked 60 series and re engineer the front to have ps.
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

I've got a few 40 series of differing types; short long petrol diesel.

They are a great truck to have. However as a daily driver they're a bit poo. Fantastic to take out occasionally but most of the time more effort that worth.

Maybe buy it to restore though just so some other muppet doesn't buy it, only to ruin it by putting in a v8 and enormous tyres on it.

We have an 08 , 3.0 lt , 6 sp manual , BUT i cant seem to let go of our 80 series L/C . We've had it for nearly 14 years . 4.2 lt diesel with nearly 400000 k on the clock and runs like a charm .

My first Toyota was a camry, best car we have ever owned. My wife drives a 2005 Rav4, its alright, reliable, not as economical as I would have expected and not as nice as the Camry or the Prado to drive. I also have a 1985 Hilux dual cab 4x4 2.4 litre diesel, heading towards 600 thou on the clock, hope to upgrade that to a newer (would love a spanking new) Hilux.

After initially not liking the look of the FJ in the pics I have seen a few in the flesh, the missus even remarked that she could trade the Rav on one and she hated the pictures as well. The FJ is not a car for a person who wants practicality though.

                        Cheers Andrew

Our Toyota stable has a 2011 RAV 4 Cruiser parked along side the Prado, this replaced the 2002 Camry wagon.
Kids are 8 and 5 years old, one foam booster seat on the rear seat and school bags in the cargo area.
It would be limited for room if ya had to lug a pram and associated gear. But very happy with it overall.
Would love one of Toyota's FT-86 II Concept Sports cars, in Black thanks very much.
