Two videos that remind us how lucky we are to have such dedicated and selfless armed forces.
May we always remember those fallen and those still serving.

It's an go honour to be related to servicemen from both WWII and Vietnam.

Technology and media allow us to see the faces of these individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice. Not so for the many who fought in the 1st and 2nd world wars, Boer wars, etc with hundreds of thousands killed and injured. And not to forget those that served in Korea, Borneo and Vietnam, many of these national servicemen who had no choice but to serve.

My own father, recounts to my sons and me about his exploits fighting against the Nazis in the former Yugoslavia, being shot and spending 2 years in a German POW camp. Escaping at the end of the 2nd World War when confusion ran supreme and everyone was for themselves. No medals, no thanks, no compo for my dad. I served for 9 yrs in the Australian Regular Army and 18yrs as a reservist, including some overseas service, but that pales into insignificance for those that paid with their lives so that we can live in freedom. And it infuriates me that so many fail to recognize what these true heroes have done for our country and culture.

Folks

I have enormous respect for our present and past members of the armed forces.

One of the most memorable experiences was attending a Dawn Service 4 years ago at Sheepstation Flats in the Vic High Country.

2feet of fog on the ground a Vietnam Serviceman reading the service and then doing the Last Post on a bugle at -4 degrees, 40 people there and all proud to be Aussies.

Dont forget that Remembrance Day is for all that have died in war, not just service personal;

"Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11 am on 11 November, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts."

(thats not a go at anyone in anyway, it is worth remembering all that died)
