Leaseplan and Tyres

I have a prado on novated lease via Leaseplan.

The tyres on the Prado are nearing the end of their life. They have done about 65K

When I bought the Prado I arranged for the dealer to trade in the new Grandtreks and fit Cooper AT's

Today I went into Tyrepower to arrange for new Coopers and was told that they doubted Leaseplan would agree, that I would have to fit Grandtreks :-(. They will ring Leaseplan on Monday to see what can be arranged. I sugested I would pay diffference but they did not seem to be interested.

Anyone else had this problem?

Ring Leaseplan and find out the amount allocated for tyres, I have a lease through Maxxia and was able to change to 5 Coopers AT3's at around 45000klms

At the end of the day, it's your money!!!!!!

At least that's what my lease company said to me, when a dealership said I had to ask the lease company for permission to have the oil & filter changed every 5000k.

It is your vehicle & your money.

So you tell them!!! & if your lease company says different.............. SACK THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leaseplan shouldn't have a problem with it, I've never been questioned over my tyre choice on my current Falcon through Leaseplan, even when I put a set of Yokies on that were over $700 each. Although they can be funny at times, once they refused to pay for a wheel alignment because I hadn't yet done 10,000kms since the last one, even though our roads were very potholed at the time and the car quite obviously needed one, strange.

My four previous vehicles including my last two 120's were all on a novated lease. When the lease is priced they usually account for two sets of tyres per year, which you pay for, and which leaves you a lot a credit in your account. They have no say on what brand of tyre you choose. Their only concern is that your tyre expenditure does not exceed the amount of money you pay. As I work for an insurance company, the only concern you should have is tyre size. If you choose to to get larger size tyres than than is supplied by the vehicle manufacturer, you do run the real risk of your insurance not paying out if your involved in an accident. This does happen, I have been involved in three claims that were refused. Insurance companies have staff solely responsible for finding ways not to pay claims. If you change tyre size, get it noted on your policy. If your mob wont do it, try another insurer. IMO, I don't think it's worth running the risk.

If they try to be difficult ask them how they worked out tyre replacement intervals as I would suggest they used about 40km as the tyre life. You have done 65k so as was said before the provision for tyres in the lease should be sufficient to cover whichever tyre you choose.

So if you don't use 2 sets of tyres a year you are paying for a set that you don't use? I have looked at the numbers on leasing a vehicle a few times, I honestly can't see why people do it, far better off paying cash up front IMO.

I don't know how other leases are set up, but mine is very flexible. I can increase or decrease the amount that I pay each fortnight, or spend the money on other items, for example extra services or getting the car detailed.
Or if I have to, I can leave the money in the account & get it back at end of lease.(Note you pay 48% tax on this option)

I save too much money on my lease not to do it.

As others have said, it is your car and your money. The leasing company simply does all the paperwork. I'm with SG Fleet and have not had any issues like this. You should be able to adjust your payments to suit what maintenance you want. The only thing they won't include is capital costs like bull bars etc.

I nominate the number of kilometres per year and the required tyres replacements are worked out over the term of the lease. You only pay for what you use. For me it works as I can use the $60,000 on what I want rather than have it tied up in a car. It also reduces my taxable income. Also at the end of the lease the residual is less than what I could sell it for. For my situation it works for me, but it may not for everyone.

Exactly, i can tell you i save a bucket load in tax by leasing, also i didnt pay GST on the purchase price and i got Gold Fleet, new 150 GXL for under 55k. Theres 2009 150 GXL's still selling for $59990.

Will be a different story when the lease is up with the 20% FBT across the board.
