Have you read the review on Amazon? Doesn't look very promising and like you I don't have Android! I am also looking at getting a SPOT Connect. Have you been able to work out the cost of messages? You get five free, then what?

I finally found the cost of messages on the SPOT Connect:

        $49.99 USD for 500 Msgs
        $29.99 USD for 100 Msgs
        $0.50 USD for Individual Msgs.

Not too bad a price for messages.

The basic service is $115.00 USD and the tracking is an additional $49.99 USD per year.

Why not get an iridium sat phone?

You can recieve sms and emails for free, and send from the phone.

            Plus, it's a sat phone!

Be warned that not all resellers will support the iridium sms portal.

I have (and sell) spots, hf radio, sat phone, the spot is cool, but if I really need to get someone I reach for the iridium.

                Please explain!

                W.T.F. is Spot Connect?

My carrier pigeons are not as fast as they use to be, so I might have to update to new technology (or find out what it really does - my last boss before I retired called me a Technological Dinosaur)

Spot connect is the latest from spot. It allows you to connect your smartphone by Bluetooth to send sms via satellite.

It will still do everything that the regular spots will do.

It has the SOS button on the unit so can send the SOS signal even without the smartphone.

Very mixed reports on them, pretty much recieved by people who actually use the functions of the spot v1 or v2 as being buggy and unreliable.

                  I'll not be 'upgrading'.

I'm away in NQ at the moment, but can organise links to some reviews when I get home again.

Maybe, but I'll incur wrath if I say anymore I'm sure. :-)
