  • Interesting fuel consumption data

I got hold of some fuel consumption comparisons from our fleet management system to compare 5 vehicles over the past 1-5 years, depending on model. All mileage is an approximate 70/30 split between town/country.

    2006 120 Prado 1KZ-TE Diesel: 12.6 L/100km (heavy foot driver)
    2007 120 Prado 1KZ-TE Diesel: 11.1 L/100km (about 50% open country driving)
    2006 120 Prado 1GR-FE Petrol: 16.1 L/100lm (some towing incl.)
    2010 150 Prado 1KD-FTV Diesel: 11.2 L/100km
    2010 LC200 2UZ-FE Petrol V8: 15.8 L/100km (very conservative driver, some towing incl.)

I've also got a 2006 120 Prado 1GR-FE Petrol and my consumption is:
    • 13.5 L/100km open road (cruise control set just under fineable speed)
    • 15 L/100km around town (very gentle driving, low revs)
    • 17.5 L/100km with roofrack, gear, family, combo of cruising, beach & low range off road
    • 22 L/100km towing my camper from Kal - Esperance and back

The standout for me is the LC200 V8 petrol - less thirsty than the petrol Prado. On open country runs that vehicle is giving a reliable 10-11 L/100km!

I asked several Prado & LC drivers over Xmas what they were getting (mix of 4.2TD Cruisers, D4D Prados, one LC V8 petrol), and my petrol Prado was the thirstiest towing vehicle of the lot. Mind you I'm heavy - rook rack / pod / water / fuel, towing at max allowable speed. Lucky the fuel is part of the deal!

Kal to Esperance hey? Bushbasher lives in Kal.

Petrol + towing = thirsty. My D4d uses half the litres that my old 3.4 litre petrol did when towing.

I got 12.5/100 on a recent road trip out past Winton in the v8 petrol 200, usually average about 15 around town. It will show 10's on the highway on instant fuel usage monitor. My old 2006 TD Prado wasn't that much better.

2010 d4d 150 Prado, averaging 11.1L per 100km in a variety of driving around town, 80k zones and a bit of highway. This has been consistent over the past four tanks of fuel. The vehicle has mud tyres and a heap of accessories including a roof rack and foxwing awning. When I first purchased it, with no accessories I was averaging around 9L per 100km.

Just got back late last night from been away and got 11.8 per 100 this was some running around home before leaving to go away and then freeway driving, no off road and giving it some coming home last night mostly 115/125 all the way home. Last trip was 11.6L per 100this is without any mods except factory bullbar and as usual loaded in the rear including weaco fridge etc. I'm very happy with the fuel figures considering I wasnt driving for economy this was including emergency dash to the local hospital where we were, an older lady (75) gouged the front of her leg open trying to get into her son in laws patrol but she slipped while climbing up coming down on side steps which have a bit of a jagged edge so to speak for supposidly better grip and been an older person her skin is like tissue paper and just well you could imagine and she is not a small lady hence pushing it a bit to get home after a delay of just over 2 hours (she still in at the moment) looks like skin grafts needed, ouch poor old thing ............Cheers steve

That's the best 120 V6 petrol consumption I've seen by miles. I'm wondering what penalty the roof bars / lights / beacon etc incurs on my mine spec vehicle. Also Dueller 8ply rated D694s.

I think the V8 cruisers are alright except when pushed.

Yeah thats twice Ive checked consumption and that is by having both tanks chock oblock before I start then refill both when I get home again chock oblock then go by the litres used and klms done on speedo. Myn is stock as a rock including grandtreck tyres, the only extra added to the vehicle is the alloy sovereign bar fitted by toyota. The old 95 V6 grande I had, the best was 12,2L per 100 and they are known to be a tad thirstier then the 120 V6. Ive now had both including the 1KZ in the 95 also this was not very economical by any means. I dont think any thing will be as good on fuel as the D4D in the 150's, they are great on fuel both round town and freeway......Cheers Steve

                      1KZ-TE fuel consumption

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd add my input. Having just completed a 17,000 Klm trip mostly towing a 2.45 tonne tandem full-size van. Plenty of assorted roads and some 4wding, when towing I run it in 3 (auto) and average around 80-85 Kph. Overall figures for the trip were 18.71 L/100/K, worst figure was heading from Pt Augusta to Coober Pedy the Hwy, where it got 24.3 L/100/K and the best was 12.96 while driving around Carnarvon (not towing). All figures were calculated using; litres filled at bowser, klms showing since last fill, and programmed into "Car-Log" app which calculates ongoing average. The readout on my dash claimed an average of 15.1 while the "instant readout" would also seem to read about 3.5 low. Only issue I had during the trip was one alternator belt that started to disintegrate (the other was also looking pretty sad) while leaving Perth, I limped into York where an excellent workshop (M.A.L. Autos) fixed this (fitted all 3 new belts) within an hour of me calling in. Exceptionally happy with their response, courtesy and service. The fuel consumption is "real world" driving and demonstrates the increase which can be expected when towing compared to not towing. Overall I think that the fuel consumption is quite reasonable.
