  • CT Jockey wheel... air or solid?

    Hi all,

    Pushing my CT around the yard the other day (to mow under it) finally saw the end of the jockey wheel.
    I knew it was rusting through where the centre of the wheel meets the axle and it finally gave way.

    So my Q's is this...

    Solid rubber or air? Which one is easiest to push around?
    All sorts of terrain... dirt, grass and sandy camp sites.

    These are the ARK ones I was looking at.
    Both are 10" wheels as I figured larger is easier to roll.

    I was going to replace mine with an air filled one, the solid one tends to dig into sand.

      I have always had the air filled ones, I reckon I might go for a solid next time though, flatties are a PITA. Larger diameter tyre is the way to go though.

        Solid is fine as long as it's big and chunky- less things to go wrong than an air filled one, cheaper too!

            Hmmm... I've always had air filled and never had a puncture... now that I've said that I'd better go for solid

              I can see sand would be the one place I reckon air filled would be better... Grrr...

                I've had both on my box trailer and the pneumatic tyre isn't big enough for it to make a difference on sand so I went for solid last time. The solid wheel works best on other surfaces and I was always having trouble with the pneumatic tyre losing pressure. I will be making up a pneumatic tyre specifically for sand work and that is a mini Quad motorbike front tyre. In the meantime I have some of that US Army sand mat that ARB (or was it TJM?) sells and use that when pushing the trailer around on sand and it is pretty good.

                    I used to have a pneumatic tyre and have recently changed to a solid wheel and have found that on most surfaces the solid wheel is easier to push. I have had a flat on my pneumatic tyre and it made it extremely hard going.

                        i got both with 2 clamps on draw bar solid is easier to push around on hard surface but on grass the pneumatic is easier it s also one of those ratchet steering jobs that i never use

                          I have a solid wheel, but its only a small one and it absolutely suxs to push it around on grass and infact hard surfaces it isnt much better. I have been looking to upgrade to a air type wheel so this is very interesting for me, will watch with interest.

                            Large solid wheel/tyre is the way to go....The flex in the pneumatic tyre i always found a PITA
                            2003 120 GXL, 4.0V6, Snorkel, Sovereign Bar, Dual Batteries, Bilstein/Lovells 50mm Lift, PolyAir Bags, MickeyT MTZ 265/70/R17.
