  • Why would you buy genuine?

About to replace the hand brake shoes in the 90, I rang toyota and they quoted $46 per shoe, I thought $184 was a bit steep so I rang Pep's and got the set of 4 bendix shoes for $29.95

I have no idea how manufacturers justify their prices and just as amazed that people would pay that surely the originals aren't 6 times better as the price would suggest.

    Rant over

They are banking on most people not knowing how to do the job themselves and getting it done at the dealers. So when the average bob puts his car in for a service they find the problem and ask do they want them replaced. Most just say 'okay, if you say so'.

A good profit. Also, not making excuses but I thought the manufacturer has to stock parts for their vehicle for like 20yrs or so whereas the auto places have no requirement. Bit like govt stores. Years ago they had everything anyone could want in big warehouses. Now its mostly ordered in.

Bendix were making brake shoes for Toyota when I had my 80 Series. The same shoes were going into a Toyota labelled box, but the price was doubled at Toyota.

It costs a lot to put the word 'Toyota' on a box don't you know!

Genuine Toyota parts are 90% of the time more expensive, but there are some parts that I would not buy aftermarket, you need to keep that in perspective if you want to keep your prado in tip top condition.

            yeah agreed Croozza
But $30 compared to $184 for what I would suspect is exactly the same part aint one of those cases

Not really mate, some aftermarket parts are made in 3rd world countries, where there is poor quality control of their manufactured part, and will fail alot quicker than the Toyota part.

guess time will tell, I've always used bendix pads on all my cars over the years I've never had a drama. But I have to admit I wont by cheap no name parts I prefer to stay with the big name aftermarket suppliers.I think I'm pretty safe with something like hand brake shoes I would expect they'll pretty much last the life of the vehicle but if it was a critical component then I would be either going original or something that is higher performance than original such as in the case of suspension

Brake pads are fine if you stick to Bendix, but what i'm talking about is those cheap ebay items and replacement electricals, and mechanicals.

Quote: what other options do we have apart from denso injectors?

This is really a question for "diesel rattle in D4D Prado" as will throw this thread of topic

Answer: Would not know the answer to that one? ...... But i "would" be approaching denso and "not" going through Toyota "outside" of warranty. (Will cost more!).

There is now plenty of refurbished injectors out there for half the price and less but i personally bought brand new (never used, Not recycled) latest generation injectors for mine through denso.

                        Cheers
