  • FJ off road question

Why does the right front not spin as this FJ gets some air and are Prados the same?

Cant really say why as it is US spec, (he may not have it in 4WD as said above), The Aust spec ones come with traction control and rear diff lock, so as long as he has it in 4WD he will get drive from all 4 wheels. The FJ is a part time 4wd where as the Prado is fulltime 4WD.

In the US, manual transmission models are Full-Time 4wd, where as models with the Auto box are part-time 4wd. What possessed Toyota to do it like that is beyond me

Certainly looks like he has no drive on the front, the front is not even making an attempt to move when he gets stuck. The rear looks to have the factory locker engaged and he is in low range.

So if like our 150's, you can go to low range, engage a rear locker (if you have one) without locking the centre diff. Though traction control would kick in on the 150.

Having a locker does not garantee you to get through/over an obsticle, if the tyres dont grip, you go no-where quick.

I had this link sent to me just today that sort of fits in with this discussion, obviously a Subaru promo. Guess the moral of the story, not all Traction Controls are created quite equal, you just have to learn how to best use what you have I guess.

As an afterthought, does that mean the less "gismo" style Centre lock on the 120 make it more "predictable"?
