  • Storing a deep cycle battery

    G'day there.

My aux battery will be out of my car for around 2 months, until I have time to install it in the next Prado. I have it stored on a wooden shelf in the garage. Do you have any suggestions for storing/caring for it? Will I need to find a charger to help keep it healthy, or any other tips for storage?

    Thanks,
    LFaR.

Is it a deep cycle? I would think (and, no, I'm not an expert) that it should be OK just sitting there.
The charging of it would depend how between when it goes back into the car, will you want to use it?

If it is an AGM charge it up and leave it on the shelf. If it is a wet cell battery then you should give it at least a day a week on a charger.

charge it up and leave it on the shelf, it will be good, or if you have a ctek charger leave it on trickle till you get the new 150

Currently have the camper trailer deep cycle on the Ctek charger while the trailer receives some mods.
Check the electrolyte level periodically and should keep it in good condition.

            Thanks guys.

It's a maintenance-free Calcium/Calcium battery (Supercharger MRV70). I was also imagining it should be fine to leave on the shelf. After all, I wonder how long they sit on store shelves before being sold.

Still, it's good to have some validation.

            Cheers,
            LFaR.
