  • So it is modified then, cause that is not the usual way it mounts. Is the rack full length or short?

Here are the RRP prices off their website

The price is for rails with no existing mounts at $800.00 the Rhino guy steered us to the Roof Racks Galore people for the 10% discount, I have the aero bars so I'm assuming that i could use those and the mounts as well and only have to buy the rack is that what you did Craig? Also are you around sometime so that I could have a look?

        • Never made a purchase Richo. Stewy was telling that you were looking closely at it on Friday so I had a good look at them too. From what I was told by the RRG staffer, yes if you have existing roof bars then it fits onto these. I would assume though that the bar length would need to be trimmed down as my bars are 1250 and the rack I was looking at is slightly less than this (1236mm)

          • What's the fascination with the platforms and no sides on the roof rack? I am looking at going for the Rhino tray (one size bigger than recommended) and doing a bodgy to use roofbars.

            • I for one currently have a cheapie basket that when fitted, prevents me from parking in my garage. The pioneer platform would barely be 10mm higher than the existing sports bars so booya!

              • Yep, it's the low garage issue and parking shopping centres et al. With a small lift (most peeps seem to be going this way) I barely scrape under my lowish 06 brick garage line. Its also nice to have the option of a RTT and take it off as and when?? I was always going to buy a tray but now would not think of anthing other than a platform. The H. Rise Qld'er is dead..long live cheapie brick!!???

The reason I have for the platform is I have an OzTent and they are 2.1mts long, I have a roof basket and it is a pain to get the tent on the edge of the basket plus it is only supported in two positions, and the roof basket is heavy (steel) and takes about 15 mins to put on. Also with the platform I can leave it on and get into the garage and then just use what accessories I want.

I also spoke to the Rhino guy and he said that the paltform with nothing on it is a lot quieter then the baskets, may also be a little more fuel efficient although that is not a criteria for selection.

I suppose it is all about the usage you have for it and the ease of leaving it on.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Thats the rack I'm looking at also...

I will be removing my existing roof rails and replacing with the 6 legs that fit directly to the platform rack. That way I can keep the low profile and not have to remove it every time I go into my garage.

I was quoted about $1100 for the rack and leg package from RRG and TJM Brendale.

                    Cheers,

                    Jeff

                      • Ok thanks for the replies. I only fit the roofrack when we go away. The system I had on the 120 let me fit and remove the rack in 10 minutes. I was keen though to leave the NS rails on and have something just as easy. I am looking at using some Thule crossbars with the square bars and cut these to fit the wider than recommended Pioneer tray. Only issue is weight, it only gives me about 35kg to play with. Only need 50kg so maybe close enough.

If you did it the same time as a service, you could say it was a Toyota recall! They remove the rails and replaced with platform.

                              • I picked up a set of OME sport nitrochargers with a 50mm lift for my 150. Got it (including fitting) for about $400.00 cheaper than the quote I had got from my local ARB a few months ago.
