  • NEW SUSPENSION FIT up TIME

    Pp

Am just about to order my new bilstein and spring combo online and am looking to have it fitted up been quoted a little too much IMO $500 by a mechanics shop local and am just wondering how long this job should take to make sure I'm not getting taken for a ride with labour costs etc

So possibly goin to get coil airs in rear at the same time for the weight of the camper trailer in tow

Would be interested in your feedback

    Cheers tj

Hi Mate, I own a Mechanical Shop in Newcastle/Lake Macquarie, and we would generally quote an hour a corner, or $400 to fit springs and shocks to a Prado.

The rears are easy and you can DIY. The front will need spring compressors and it's safer for someone who knows what they are doing to do the job.

You should also factor in a wheel allignment in the fitment costs.

The Module is approx 30minutes and allow an hour for the exhaust. Id recommend spending the extra money and getting somebody to set it up on a dyno, if the module is adjustable.

An hour a corner sounds about right and if the local shop charges $120+ an hour, $500 would be nearly spot on. I would shop around to see if you can do any better. As far as getting a wheel alignment goes, you would be best to wait 2-3 weeks to let the suspension settle before getting an alignment.

              Hope this helps

Shouldn't wheel alignment be done after a few hunder km's for the suspension to set?

Replaced the springs myself on the 95, rear took about 1.5hrs and front took 3.5hrs (2hrs trying to do a reinstall with out spring compressors, ended up just using the compressors... could have saved my self 2hrs if i just used the compressor).
If you have worked on suspension perviously, it should be a piece of cake, otherwise the labour is worth the money.

Got a quote of $450, $350 from 2 places and other place quoted $280 if the kit was bought from them.

                  ironman 2" kit (shocks n springs) $840 + 280 install = $1120 (everything 4wd)
lovell springs (raised std weight) $150pair + KYB (Skorched 4's) $564 set (AutoOne) + $350 install (tyre experts) or DIY

Ended up just getting the springs as the shocks where replaced less than a year ago with the stock Tokico items.
Also couldn't find reviews on the skorched 4?
