G'day Andrew Glad to hear you got your awning.... I went down that track with the ostrich as well but decided against it at the last minute.... Seemed like I was just going to give $1,000.00 away lol..... The freight was the biggest problem for me and as my better half is South African, she was convinced that you would never see any product delivered.....

I ended up with a polesless awning custom made, similar to the Hannibal I guess?

Got the awning made 2.4m x 2m in alloy.

Because I have the rollers on the back of my rack I decided against a 720 awning but I have been thinking about making a mod and it wouldnt take much to add a velcro piece of canvas etc and some pole extensions.. just need to find the time......

In my unbiase opinion if I had my time again I would buy an Ostrich Wing instead of a Foxwing.
To be honest it is a big unit but so is the Foxwing. It is well built and expensive but you do get what you pay for.
Atleast with AJ testing one at least you knowit will be used and used and proberbly used again.
Time will be the test it does look the goods. PS unlike MLC I have seen it.

Not sure how far away the aussie one is but it is in the planning stages I believe.

Do you supply a Hannibal 2 x 2.4 with sides? I'm thinking this may be the go for me, just trying to get a decent price in Adelaide.

Thanks Adam. I agree, if anyone is going to test it, Andrew will.
            See you at the GTG

Sorry don't do the hannibal, just my own brand, Red Dog Offroad which are a standard awning or wing awning.

Looks like the ostrich wing is available in Australia now:

                  http://www.ostrichwingawning.com.au/...ow-to-buy.html

                  $1495.

Now you've had it for nearly 2 years AJ, do you still think it was worth the extra over something like the foxwing? Is it still holding up well?

Still very happy with it, no issues to report.

Is it worth the extra?? well that depends on what you want to do with it. it doesn't provide any more shade than the foxwing, and it's not lighter or cheaper, its not compatible with the oztent and so on. However the huge advantage is that its super quick to set up, even in moderate or even strong winds with no poles or guy ropes necessary.

On our trip to the Pilbara last year for six weeks we used it quite a few times, many of those times were lunch or smoko breaks on our travels in the middle of no where, with a foxwing we would not have set it up at those times as any wind means a full set up which might take 10 minutes to erect, as opposed to less than 60 seconds for this one.

So if your only going to use it when you are camped and stopped for a long time, them maybe the foxwing is fine, if like us you want it as much or more for shorter breaks, then IMO its worth every extra cent I paid. Of course I paid a lot less than the $1495 they are currently going for, but even at that I would still probably buy the Ostrich Wing, or not bother with an awning at all.

                      Cheers Andrew

Thanks for the update. The pegging out is the main thing turning me off the foxwing and if I can get away with less of that, it seems like the extra would be worth it. I wish I'd thought about it when I was over there so I could come and sticky beak at yours. We'll be using it for both lunch breaks and overnight stops so it sounds like it's worth the extra. Now I just have to convince the minister for finance.

If you don't want to peg and pole then this is the ideal awning for you. There is one pole that takes about 5 seconds to put down, I started out using that but probably haven't bothered with that even in the last 100+ times I've set it up.

If you want to have a look at one then I have 2 words for you "road trip"

                          Cheers Andrew

Anyone close to North Lakes north of Brisbane can check one out outside the Masters store. He has it on his coffee trailer. When it's very windy he'll put up the poles but that's probably more to do with Masters's safety policy.

                            Cheers Jim.
