I don't know about the other guy but I've ordered mine now and it shipped yesterday so should be here in the next couple of days. Can't wait. I'm at Logan if you want to come and check it out once I've got it fitted. There'll be pics on my build thread pretty soon after it goes on. PM me for a time after that.Originally posted by YMUS View PostMate seriously contemplating the Ostrich wing - is the Westlake guy still around...?

If you open the ostrich wing do you have to bury the front of the Prado in a sand dune?My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

She did warn me that she couldn't guarantee my roof rack fittings. The basically said her awning wouldn't break but it might rip the roof rack off the bars or the bars out of the roof. I'm willing to keep an eye on it but it's nice to know the confidence she has in her product.Originally posted by mjrandom View PostIf you open the ostrich wing do you have to bury the front of the Prado in a sand dune?

Don't know mate. He hasn't been there lately when I've been and the Masters staff aren't sure about him. Don't know when I'll be back there. You could always give them a call. He told me he goes other places but that was about 6 months ago but I can't remember exactly what he said.Originally posted by YMUS View PostJim

Spent most of the day trying to get it fitted. 4 trips to bunnings, 2 trips to autobarn, 2 melted drill bits and a fairly decent burn later, it's attached to the roof but I still haven't got the back support bracket attached so can't even open it yet. Hopefully finish tomorrow. I can't tell you how thrilled my wife is with this Mother's Day.

Here's some pics of the mount and the finished product. It basically depends on the bracket at the back to give it the strength it needs so that it doesn't need poles:Originally posted by AJ120 View PostExcellent, keen to see how you mounted it as well.
Cheers Andrew

It's attached to a piece of aluminium angle, 6mm 100x50mm, 2.2 metres long so that the awning has an extra mount point just past the end of my rack. It's only 1928mm.

There's 2 brackets that in theory are supposed to hold the entire load but I just bolted the angle between these and the rack/awning and seems strong enough to me. I'm not sure I'd have been comfortable without the angle:

The finished product seems great. I've no qualms about the strength of the awning although I am a little concerned how well the rhino rack clamps would hold up in a lot of wind. All in all, pretty happy with it so far though:

I'm not sure I'd leave it up without being nearby in case a gust sprang up but with the pole down, I'd be pretty happy. Considering how easy it is to put up and down though, I'll just pack it away whenever we're not using it. I'll give it a pretty good workout on the Cape trip in a few weeks so I'll see how it goes then. Certainly happy so far.
