So went to Salisbury today for the kids final little athletics meet and stumbled upon this.

The sovereign bar is a complete mess )as you could imagine as there is a tree wherer the bar and radiator should be), it was torn apart like ripping a peice of paper. There were bits of the bullbar a good 15 metres away.
The auto was stuck in Reverse and the transponder had been snapped off with the key still in the ignotion. He had gone straight over the roundabout and managed to find the tree square on.

I am curios and maybe someone here can answer, the air bags had not been deployed, I had assumed to do the amount of damage to the bullbar the drivers bag would definitely have deployed, any ideas???

Meh, those sovereign bars crumble at the thought of hitting light rays. Absolute crap.

An alloy bar is still better than the standard bumper. I doubt that any other bar would have fared much better against a tree.

I reckon a steel bar wouldn't have bent in the same manner, more so the whole thing would have shifted back, but not as much.

My first thought on seeing the pics is - what parts could be salvaged?

I was thinking stolen... but who knows... The fact that it hadn't been recovered straight away also points in that direction...

It seems the chassis rails haven't crumbled probably why the airbags didn't go off. More a radiator, bonnet and soft items hit. Would be sad for someone to find their pride and joy end up like that.

The coppers were there taking some happy snaps when I first saw it.

My first thoughts were either drunk or had an argument with the Mrs and went for a spin. Obviously had a few kids, the back seats were down and there were toys and kids sh1t everywhere. Seeing as it looked like they tried to reverse out. the transmission was in reverse, so I assume he couldnt get it out of reverse so snapped the transponder off with the key in the ignition so they could lock the car at least.

This still would have been a fairly big hit in my opinion and I still can't understand the airbags not deploying. Having a sneak through the gap in the bonnet to me it looked like there was some damage to the front of the engine, the battery was squashed and deformed.

Maybe the bullbar isn't airbag compatible?

It'd have to be considering it is a Toyota option, not an aftermarket bar.

I guess the reason I am so concerned is I have this same bar on my Prado and its a little disconcerting seeing it.

Mmm, Salisbury you say? Then there is no other explanation needed! I would definitely say stolen. Did you and your family get out unscathed.

I'll up the ante and take 3 wheels at 2 cartons per wheel.
