""The guy who wrote that, has impeccable credentials and is very highly regarded by members of our LC Club (www.landcruiserclub.co.za) and if he says that's what he saw, I believe him. Furthermore, his remarks about the "flimsiness" of the 1GR-FE is his opinion.""

Hi there LoiusF, mate not saying it didnt happen as in my previous post, but to say these are a flimsy motor is incorrect and Im not just saying it because thats what I have. I have heard people say the same thing about the 3.4 V6 as well and they possibly are a longer lasting motor then the 4L V6 due to the 4L been all alloy ?? time will tell, but in saying that I have seen the 4L high up in the klms and still going extremely strong. Not getting excited lol just if other people read things like that it looks like to that person who may know jack shit about vehicles and in the process of looking for a prado or hilux with that engine that the 4L is a heap of shit so they wont touch it, then they tell their mates "dont buy one of those there a shit engine"" so on and so on which is totally untrue, and as I said before none of my comments were aimed at your posts.....Cheers Steve

Hi Steve M, I'm glad we got that past us. I see exactly where you are coming from and in your shoes my reaction would ahve been very similar to yours. I can anyway not believe that Toyota's engines would get worse with time! And I didn't take your remarks to heart in the sense that I felt you were attacking me 'cause it was clear that you are put out by the other guy's remark.

Williade, I do believe my block is damaged. If you hear the way that thing goes "tuck-tuck-tuck" when I start her up in the morning, it is clear there is some damage. The rebuild would cost more than replacing with a used Jap import engine, BUT the higher power of the 1UZ enticed me into going after that. It is about on par with a rebuild, pricewise, and a little more than 50% more than a used 5VZ swap. As we say here in Afrikaans "my gat jeuk" (my @ss itches) for the extra power of the 1UZ.
You are right, such a transplant is an awful lot of work, that is why I am paying someone else a lot of money to do it. He has put 1UZs in a Musso, a Nissan 4x4 pick-up truck, a Toyota pick-up of about 2000 vintage, a number of LC trucks and I don't know what else. Even into a Merc 450SL, with twin turbo's, no less. All with huge success and his business just keeps growing. He needs to have my truck there for two weeks...

Over here in Aus we'd go see a doctor about that. Sounds like you've got a talented mechanic there Louis

Once a upon a time, didn't Blacksmith extract teeth. A mechanic turning their hand to a bit of proctology could be a different world of hurt to ones 'big end'.

This mod can be done, IF YOU HAVE THE AUTO TRANS, as it is the same one used in the 80/100 series petrol. this motor has 160kw std, and about 400nm. If your still concerned about the auto you can always modify it to handle the extra power. The front diff and CV's would be the only real concern, you would need to get some racing CV's and change to stronger diff or put a front air locker in it.

Croozza, are you referring to the 1UZ with those outputs? I found the following on www.wikipedia.com when I started considering this option.
"In 1997, Toyota's VVT-i variable valve timing technology was introduced along with a further compression ratio increase to 10.5:1,[1] bumping power and torque to 216 kW (290 hp) and 407 N·m (300 lb·ft). In the GS400 application, output was rated at 300 hp and 310 lb·ft of torque."
So, what you are saying there is scaring me. The guy who wiil do the transplant has allready bought the motor, but I believe I can still stop the lorry. I'll put what you said to him and hear what he says. Thanks a lot,

And you guys, about that scratching thing, what helps for that itch is not scratching, only having your car's seat under your bum.

If you drive it sensibly, you will not have a problem.

This is what I have found on the 1UZ

                    http://www.lextreme.com/forums/1uzfe.pdf

it has 250hp which is 183kw

                    this is for the 2UZ
                    http://www.brian894x4.com/2UZFEspecifications.html

it has 235hp which is 173kw

Personally, I think the 2UZ to be the better motor, as it has better torque lower down the rev range.

Croozza, I am not arguing about the 2UZ being better for off-road duty than the 1UZ because of its more suitable torque charactristics. However, I am not sure I accept the Lextreme output figures for the 1UZ I found@
                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1UZ-FE#1UZ-FE
and the figures do not agree with lexetreme's. And keep in mind I am talking from 1997 onwards: the VVTi model.
But that is neither here nor there, 2UZ would be appreciably heavier (cast iron block as opposed to aluminium block in the 1UZ), therefore certainly more suitable for a LC 100/105, rather than a Prado 90. Well, in my view at least. And the 2 UZ is scarcer and, I believe, more expensive here than the 1UZ.

I have left my truck with the guy who will do the transplant of the 1UZ. It is the same one who is doing the 1GZ transplant into Cruiser truck. Follow link below. Interesting job and very well done.

Some more water ran down to the sea since my last post. The VVT idea was scrapped due to time nad financial considerations stemming from the technicalities of getting the VVT motor running and performing properly with the Prado's auto 'box. So my mechanic is busy completing the transplant. Here is a pic of the new motor taken on Saturady morning - pardon the quality, for it is taken with my mobile's camera. The second pic was taken later in the day.

Lots of work still to be done, but things have begun to rock 'n roll! :-)

Yep thats me LouisF, and yeah same pic too.
Never seem to find the opportunity to stop and take pretty photos of my rig when I go for a drive. Would help if I had an off-sider but the missus is usually at work on my days off.
Sorry bout the rant on gearboxes I got a bit excited that someone was doing a conversion, the auto box would probably survive the transplant but like anything mechanical it all depends on how it has been maintained.

Good photos there, am surprised at how close it sits to the radiator. Its going to be interesting when it comes time for you to change the drive belts!
Looks sweet in there though, bet your now itching to have it all finished just to see the stunned look on the face of the first v6 prado owner you pass by. Lol

That would be no closer to the radiator than the 2.7 or 3 ltr diesel 4 bangers. Dont forget the v6 is 3 cylinders long and the v8 is 4 cylinders long, so that would give the impression of it being too close
