Laws are pointless for the lawless. As long as the gang bangers are shooting at each other then let them get on with it. Some of them need some training because they are terrible shots. It won't matter a bit how tough the gun laws are when these scumbags can get their hands on handguns and other firearms without having to jump through the hoops that the law abiding citizen has to in order to licence a firearm. Only a couple of weeks ago a Sydney private post office was alledged to be involved in the illegal importation of 100 Glock sub compact pistols, one of which was used in the fatal shooting of an individual in NSW. The OMCG and other gangs will use whatever they can to erradicate the opposition. We've seen them use guns, explosives, firebombs and drugs to target their quarry. Countries such as Canada have spent many hundreds of millions of dollars trying to get a suitable firearm licensing system that actually works and have realized that they would have been better off putting the money into policing the borders and those criminals bringing in the drugs and other contraband.Last edited by Bushbasher; 27-12-2014, 08:31 AM.Dave

My favourite Latin phrase translates to "are you by chance the owner of a very flat yellow cat?"
I should have added mine wasn't a political statement just an opportunity to use some Latin. Sadly for every 10,000,000 sane and morally responsible humans there is a nutter who cannot be trusted with a rubber band and some spit soaked paper! Like so much of life many laws are to cater for the lowest of the low.Last edited by mjrandom; 22-04-2012, 08:22 PM.My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

They were saying on the TV news (well it's not news anymore now is it, too much bias and sensationalism) the other day that the amount of guns imported into Australia has now equaled what was destroyed in the gun buy back.
In some ways I am glad that people can't get hold of semi autos in general, even though I cried fowl when I had to hand mine in.
It still stinks that the crims can get what they want any time, and when they get caught get a slap on the wrist.Snowy

exactly ! and i agree with all so far . id just like to add that its great to see the nsw cops finally using their guns or tasers for that matter for their intended purpose and not for decoration . ie getting rid of human detritus and saving taxpayer dollars . oooh too non PC ?Originally posted by tassie tiger View PostThey seem to be pretty well balanced at the moment. Hi Fletcher,Originally posted by Fletcher120 View PostI know it's a little political but i see where gun laws are starting to raise they're head again with the recent criminal activity in various state's . Just putting it out there that's all .
I actually heard the opposite. Government is considering relaxing the laws just a touch but don't know where to begin as they don't like the idea of egg on their face after the millions of taxpayers money they wasted on the buyback.
I can guarantee you that if they ban guns all together in this country that gun crime wouldn't decrease at all. If anything it'll increase as the criminal is certain no one is going to shoot back!
We need to find a happy medium. The USA's laws are too loose in my opinion, and AUS's are too tight. We need something along the lines of what the Kiwi's have... ahhh paradise!Loz - 2007 GXL D4D Auto White

Fair comments from all who replied . Years ago i worked with a Hungarian who has now passed on . He was a very wise old bugger . We were working together one day and i was having a whinge (sick of this crap etc ) . He said to me'" Thats whats wrong with you Australians , You leave school and immediatly think that you have to go and work for somebody instead of working for yourself . On that particular day he also said that we dont stand up for our rights either . He was a very wise man . Vale Tony

In WA, the gun restrictions are already very restrictive. Some of the licencing procedures and rules make it very difficult to understand if you are complying with the rules or not.
- In WA, there is no Permit to Acquire system (PTA). Each application for a new firearm added to your licence requires the serial number of the firearm, plus a copy of the serviceability certificate from the dealer. This is ok if you are purchasing a 2nd hand firearm from a Licenced Dealer, as they will have the serial number, and can issue the Serviceability Certificate. However, the only way to get the serial number for a new firearm is for the Firearm Dealer to order the firearm, for which both parties have to take a gamble on the application being approved by the Licensing Department. If a purchaser wants to order something customised or unique, theres more risk as its unlikely the manufacturer or wholesaler will consider a return. In other states, an application is submitted for a PTA for a particular type calibre. If approved, then you can start looking for firearm of the approved calibre, which is then added to the licence when purchased.
- The WA licencing system broke down sometime back, and now years later its gradually being followed up, however people who have inadvertently not renewed their licences are being chased down with a heavy handed approach. Many of these people are farmers, recreational shooters etc. These owners now need to go through the whole licencing process again, including Landowner permissions letters etc, even though this information would all still be on file?
- Come to WA where its illegal to be in possession of spent brass if you dont have a licence for that calibre. While this may have some merit for centrefire rifles, it applies to all spent brass, including .22. If anyone drives my vehicle, there is a good chance they will find a spent cartridge or 10 on the floor on somewhere.
- In WA, a land owner needs to write them self a letter authorising permission for them to use firearms, stating each type of firearm, and the reasons why. They must state that they believe them to be of good nature etc......I kid you not.....
There are many more contradictory and baffling ownership laws in WA. Many have been as a result of knee jerk reactions, or from pressure from anti gun lobbys etc.
If Eastern States authorities are considering adopting any, then it will be testing times for people such as farmers and recreational shooters.
It shouldnt have much effect on criminals.
End of rantCheers

Just like politics, perception is everything.Originally posted by Talktheroo View PostYes, it's about time that Australians started speaking up about issues they don't like instead of taking it up the arse all the time.
With you all the way on that comment, Fletcher.
The Roo.
As soon as anyone starts talking up about gun laws, its jumped on by the media who portray Firearm owners as rednecks, usually finishing the story about some recent incident in USA or a country that has laws that are too loose, or where firearms are written into the constitution.
Most Shooter groups such as SSAA and other State Level organisations arent organised enough to be a united voice, and its a struggle to be heard in a positive manner when they do try.
Recent fox culling campaigns across WA got some positive spin in country newspapers, Country TV and on ABC Radio, because each fox eradicated earned $5 for the Flying Doctor. However when I was recently speaking about this among a group of novices, a high percentage of them thought foxes were native to Aust!!
90% of people arent really aware of the various gun laws, and they dont really care as it doesnt affect them, which is fair enough.
Unfortunately many think the same laws will stop criminals accessing firearms.Cheers

Well said Daz.
Unfortunately the problem here is ignorance. Not saying that anti gun people are ignorant in the sense of the word, but more the fact that they haven't been exposed to guns growing up, know nothing about it and when asked on their views they assume that they are dangerous (not an incorrect assumption to make when you don't know any better) and hence are against them.
The only way that we're going to change the view of guns and have our laws loosened up is through the education of the average Joe.
The SSAA has done a lot towards this and so have some companies such as Beretta who for 3 years in a row, ran an event called Beretta Girl Action in the North East suburbs of Melbourne, where they got along 300+ novice women (unlicensed and completely new to the sport) and got them to have a shot out of a few gun at clay targets with the extremely close supervision of members of the Australian shooting olympic team.
Most of those girls were completely wrapped with the experience and changed their view on what a gun is and how to view people who shoot. Some of them even joined a gun club and took up shooting as a sport.
It's initiatives like this that will educate people. 300 people is a piss in the ocean, but I'm sure that when they got home they told all their friends, so they potentially reached 1000 or even 2000 people!
Hopefully one day we will have a shooting tv show just like your4x4, all4adventure and your4wd!
Regards,
