  • Radiator Repairs - Brisbane?

    Hi All

I damaged my radiator yesterday and was hoping to get some recommendations for any Radiator Repairers around Brisbane. (VX150).
I gave a tree stump a fair shunt and seemed to have compromised the core.

My first inclination is to replace the radiator as we are heading off in 5 weeks to do around 5000 k's of fairly remote travel, however Toyota tell me it's around a 4 week lead time to land one from Japan, so I may have to get the existing one repaired.

Any reco's you have are very much appreciated.

    Hi Trev

Thats unbelievable, all the Prado 150's they have sold in the past two years and they dont hold stock of basic spare parts such as radiators! How many would get damaged on a daily basis from simple prangs to off road incidents. I would certainly be raising this with Toyota HO, how good can their raod side assistance service be then?

    Richo.

If I were you I would be careful who you get to do the work and ask some relavant questions.
ie: how they intend to repair it. Some repairers sandblast around the hole and fill with epoxy. Not what I would want if heading out of town on a remote trip.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

Thanks Davros - I know very little about what I should be looking out for.

Try getting anything other than simple service parts from them... It's impossible. Everything comes from Japan and the wait times are ridiculous.

Try slacks creek radiators, they usually keep stock on shelf that is more efficient and cheaper than the Toyota one.

im with crooza, probly wouldnt piss about with a genuine one if you can get an aftermarket one off the shelf straight away, radiators are hard to be repaired especially if the tank/s are busted/cracked from core damage because its bakelite material not technically a plastic, have you looked at going full aluminium? probly a warranty issue though?

                Hi All

Thanks for your replies. Well Toyota simply don't stock the part in the country - it's a 3 week lead time if you order one from Japan.
I have been dealing with a chap at Newmarket and he has ordered an after-market part from Sydney and I'll have it fitted on Thursday.

As suggested I wasn't keen on a repair of my damaged one, and with an after-market radiator supplied and installed still $150 cheaper than a genuine one I'm happy to proceed.

                Thanks again

Well after last weekends misadventure I've had a new radiator fitted and have bought and installed (with Muskies always excellent guidance) a Brown Davis bash plate.
                    Better late than never!
