"Jesus Clip" relief.

I call them Jesus Clips, they are the plastic tab's that hold the top plastic cover over the radiator on the Prado, there is about 12 of them holding it down...



About 3 - 4 modifications ago, I was sick of using a knife to hold each little tab back as I "release" the center section ready for re-installation.....so after many cuts to my fingers I was thinking there must be an easier way!!



There is, hit them with a hammer!

Place the "Jesus Clip" on a socket that will allow the centre section to drop through, and then just hit it with a hammer lightly. I have done this on my last 3 - 4 mod's where I have had to remove the shroud. Does not seem to cause any damage...



I hope with this post to save some people the frustration of trying to do it "gently"....

The number of these that I have broken recently... Is there anywhere I can get them other than toyota? Also what the hell are they called??

You simply push the center down, it will make a clicking sound and drop ~1mm..... then just lift up with a flat blade or your finger nails...

I don't meant to sound like a dick: but are you serious!? You use a hammer?

How do you remove them if you require to use a hammer to put them back in?

You can use a small screwdriver to pop the centre out when they're in use and they should stay 'popped' until you put them back in: if not, can't you just use your fingers to push the centre out?

Hi Wooley,

To get them out you simply push down with your finger and listen for the "click", then you just lift them out.

To "reset" the "tab" I use the method listed above, once the center section is "raised" again, you can simply re-insert the clip with your hand and push the tab back down "lock" with your finger.

What model prado are these from? Its a different type to what I have in the 120 - the 120 ones seem to be of a better design.

Plastic fasteners give me the irrits too. I recently have to replace the rubber guards that mount between the body and the chassis behind the front wheels arches, and these are held on by, yep you guessed it, plastic clips. Toyota wanted about $3.50 per clip!!! Two clips and thats as much as a pint down the pub!!!
