  • IM NEW! and Here is my Ride :D

    Hey everyone

I'm Jace and i've allways wanted a 4WD, Spent every weekend for most of my life camping/fishing/catching snakes and other reptiles as well as going on long trips inland camping and digging up Australian Tarantulas ( which i breed )

I did all that and more with some pretty dirty offroading in ... of all things.. a 1990 VN Commodor.. HA!

Anyway.. The commodor started costing too much money so i forked out $12500 for my new car! the car of my dreams :P

    Here she is!

    1998 Prado - V6 Auto ( diesles cost too much *facepalm* )
It's only got $140,000 Kms on it and i just changed the water pump and timing belt and the Oil is a perfect almost clear honey color

It's never been offroad and has apparently only been used to take kids to school in, It's had 1 owner.

Anyhow, i think i got a good deal! what do you guys reckon? ( it also came with a 3 year - everything covered warranty )

Hopeing to deck it out with some racks, a Toebar, Front bullbar and some spots with an awning and some draws and fridge in the back.

The only thing i've noticed about it that im not so pleased with is it appears toi use MAMMOTH amounts of fuel.. half a tank gets me from hurstville to Camden and back and it's GONE.. Any thoughts on how i can improve it's economy a little? I drive it like a granny driving a hurse and only cruise at around 98kms on the highway but it still chews the Fuel!

Anyway! sorry for the long post! I'm gonna need some 4WDing Lessons

    Jace.

Nicely done Jase! Yes, I know you are going to enjoy the fuel use of your 90 series Mine was shocking, but that's price you pay for the Petrol's power.

There many things you can do to lower your fuel bill. If you use the search function you will find this issue has been covered in many threads.

        Hi Jace,
Looks like a good buy. Inspect the bash plates and side step to confirm the lack of offroad use. (This can sometime be an issue as you should swap into low range every now and then to keep everything oiled and that both fuel pumps have been getting used)

Like they said a few forums with info on improving fuel consumption.

Basically make sure it is serviced regularly, including spark plugs, air, fuel and oil filters etc.
        Clean your air flow meter!
Maintain tyre pressure on the higher side of the scale (38-40 psi)
Take your time and try not to race every one off from the lights and you should be able to get 13L/100km out of her.

Welcome aboard, if you want better fuel econ, then make sure the MAF is clean, this will go a long way to improving the econ.

Hi You say you use half a tank? The Prado has a weird set up with the two tanks. When using one tank fuel is pumped to the motor and returned to the other tank, so you may not have used half a tank its been pumped to the other tank. You may notice one gauge goes up as the other goes down. Do a search on here lots of info . Car looks good though would like one myself,,I downgraded to a 120.
