  • LED Strip Lighting

I just received the second of my LED Strip Lights (That's LED's in a row, not lights to take your clothes off!!) and compared the 2 common types against each other.

    The first one is the 3528 LED's. It's a 1m length, 60 LED's, Cold White colour
    The second is the 5050 LED's. It's a 1m length, 60 LED's, Cold White colour

I put them both on the lounge, took a photo with the room light on

Then the 5050. The 5050 is definitely the brighter!

So if you're looking for lighting for camping, 4WDing, etc, I would recommend the 5050 LED's. They're a little more expensive, but definitely seem worth it.

Just picked up a roll of 5050 with 60/m from the post office today, Just need to find time to fit them up! Hopefully they aren't too bright.

    Cheers Andrew

I've got the 3528 120 LEDs per meter (waterproof) which is probably a bit too bright so I got some of those remote dimmers for $7 on eBay to manage the brightness and am very happy.

Yes i agree the 5050's brighter but have found the 3528's to be more than adequate for the campsites we have been on.They are less in your face and provide more than enough light.mind you i have the 5 metre lengths stringed out across the trailer and under the camper to see in the storage area. Here is a link for the comparison of the 2 different styles of lights.

For anyone contemplating cutting these into very short strips like I did, don't. I had mine about under a foot long and the LEDs are now blowing. My more knowledgeable colleague says too much current due to not that many LEDs and need to add a resistor or go for a longer length of about 1m.

Thats surprising amts, as I have sliced mine up a lot. I currently have a length of about a foot behind the bed in the CT and it works brilliantly as a reading light.

              I have the 5050's at 60/m

              Cheers,

Surprised me too. It has been working for a while and then one by one, the LEDs start to have a brown ring around it. They won't blow straight away. Maybe I have a bad batch....
