  • Winch Hawse Protectors

    Hi
Anyone using something like this protect their hawse from damage when winding in the last bit of rope?
    http://www.okoffroad.com/stuff-winchsaver.htm

Bit too expensive for me so I'm sure someone has a clever idea on what else can be made to do the job.

I bought one when I was in the US last year. If I did it again I'd use a Kong dog toy.

I just used an old plastic chopping board cut to size to fit neatly in the ARB bar with a slot to fit over the rope. Not only protects the hawse from damage but also protects the winch and rope from the weather etc. Cost Nil.

The only downside to the kong toy is you have to keep an eye out for the dog attached to the front of the bar.

I personally use part of the bump stop removed when I fitted my air bags. Works and looks just like a winch saver.

Sort of like the half Garfield cats that were all the rage a few years back. Hang it out the boot so it looks like you shut it on the cat...

Thats not bad. I like the idea of folding the hook rather than have it sticking out the front.
As we all know, anything protruding in front of the bars is against Aus Design Regs so this might save a hassle.

Also I want to have my number plate hinging from the top so as to hide the winch and rope. This works nicely and you can cut onions on it as well.

I'm with Pinko, just scrounged the bumpstop cut off bits back out of the bin, used a hole saw to make the hole big enough, works a treat. Have a couple of spare bits, probably enough for 2 maybe 3 if anyone wants a piece. I'm in Montrose (Vic) - Geoff

                              Thanks footoo

Pinko, any chance of a pic of yours as well?

Anyone else hinging the number plate to cover the winch? I saw this on a Patrol and thought it was a good idea.
No pic of it I'm afraid...
