Be grateful to whoever or whatever you pray to that it didn't come loose. You're not only talking about a towball but also the sleeve that goes into the towbar. I'm sure someone here could tell you the weight of all that plus the speed of travel would equal the force it would hit something at

How about going to a specialist towbar fitting place and have a chat with them.

Looks like i will be changing my ways as well in regards to just using the pin. I dont have one of these hitches but will be getting one before I take the 120 on the beach. I like AJ's idea with the load been spread equally. Cheers Steve

Try wd40, wipe off excess and use heat, then cool, then wd40 repeat as necessary and a pipe on the end on the wrench for leverge.

(Roo, I found a helpful non bs post!)

Also worth mentioning is that I have seen a few TOW BAR RECOVERY HITCH'S on Ebay that are not "Stamped and rated".
A few I have seen also try and trick you by including a BOW SHACKLE that is "Stamped and rated"....

Make sure both the Tow Bar Hitch and the Shackle is Stamped and Rated.

Problem is AJ, I dont have your skills to do the job you have done. Christ I cant even get some for the front as everyone I have rang says you cant get the recovery points on the front to fit properly due to my toyota soverign bar ?? even ARB. I have emailed outback but they cant tell me wether they will be compatible with my bar ?? The old 90 I had two on the front ARB bar so was good and bolted straight onto the chassis. Im still not convinced the outback ones I have seen are any stronger then the two already on the front of my prado which on the later model go right through not just tag welded under neath like the first of the 120's...Cheers Steve
This is whats under myn now

This how the old ones on the first of the 120's were welded on by underneath. This is one of the recovery brackets but are these two bolts really that strong compared to what I have ?? Im not an engineer so have no idea but certainly dont like the way they just go through the metal on the side ??

Problem is I need these for any outings if I want some one to snatch me out so I need to do some thing soon, and Im not just refering to PP either most club outings are the same......Cheers Steve

Mine's the same Steve but I put on a pair of outback ideas type from ARB but were taken off when I got their bull bar. You're welcome to try them to see if they fit .

                Cheers Jim.

The outback ideas recovery points will fit with the soverign bullbar, new or old mounting system they will be fine, just need a washer to make a spacer for the top bolt so it all sits flush.

The bracket for the rear is about as easy as it gets, 12mm plate with 4 holes 35mm centres one way and 50mm centres the other way. make sure you use minimum grade 8.8 metric bolts to attach the hooks.

                      Cheers Andrew

You sure there isn't a bolt from underneath holding it in?

Agree with MLC - use heat. Remember years ago, talking to our manager who ran Mercury dealership, had boat trailers coming in all the time, they would apply a welding heat to the tow ball, being two types of metal for ball and nut underneath, each would expand under heat at different rates and would then just easily unscrew - 40 years knowledge in the game

I could'nt get mine off once - they had it off in 5mins
