  • Tiltometer App for IPad / IPhone

In issue 184 of 4WD Action Magazineon page 111there is a photo of a Tiltometer App for the IPad / IPhone.

I've purchased this app and you can set warning alarms for safe angles of your vehicle.

Therefore does anyone know what the safe angles are for the various prado models (I'm interested in the 150).

Check out this application on the App Store:

Look good, once I replaced the jeep with an LC. Just loaded it onto my iPad.

And there's a free one for Android - Called Clinometer in the Play Store. It works well.

I once went up 48 degrees but stay str8, not sure if that's "safe"
Sideways...... Mmmmm I think just don't go sideways steep, nowhere near the limit, all you need is a high or low spot, or a rock to put you over........
So I just think if it's steep don't go sideways.....
Might be better not knowing & being able to push the limit?

Anyway i will be keen to see the answer, does anyone know an estimated side rollover angle?
          For Prado? 90, 120, 150?
I've been told you can weigh under each wheel and measure to work out exact for your own vehicle
          Prolly google the formula.....

          Have fun with gadget!

Here is a picture of angles for the 120 I have seen a number of times, not sure of the original source and the accuracy!

In the real world a 42 degree side angle just wouldn't happen, at 30 degrees you need to change your undies, even if its in a "known" spot such as a training track. 20 - 25 degrees is probably as far as most people would be brave enough to go in an unknown situation. A lifted rig and roof rack and anthing else up high will also limit the side angle.

Those apps whilst useful seem to be a bit of hit and miss for the angles, ours gives considerably different readings on the same spots, so I wouldn't rely on it for accuracy.

            Cheers Andrew

Yes, it's a great App. But it must be used in conjunction with another human safety meter. "The Sphincter Gauge" .... when my one starts puckering I know I've reached my limits.

Also when your out driving and you find yourself in a precarious angle, the last thing your going to be looking at is the clinometer as your too busy at the wheel!

If my iPhone falls off the dash - too steep. If it falls out the window - too sideways. If it looks wet - too deep. Who needs an App?
