Hi there Paddy, I cant say how many out of both tanks totally. As you can see I got virtually 800 from one BUT this is freeway driving Perisher and back home so very little start stopping like around town. I would lose roughly 250k from that 800 around town. Are you referring to around town or freeway ?? My mate says he gets 1600 out of both tanks in his VX 06 auto V6 when he goes to QLD which they do twice a year, he fills up on his way back and he runs the climate air all the time. He had the 4 speed auto in his older 04 model and says he would be sucking fumes at 1450/1500 so I take it the 5 speed auto gives it that better economy. If your referring to freeway only then you prado has an issue. If around town all stop and start even 800 is a bit lower then I would expect. I have had my'n under empty one day was been a tight arse and refused to put in 95 or 98 octane and was on freeway so kept going and pushed it to town and found a 7/11 with unleaded at 20c a litre cheaper so filled it chockers and managed 172L. I dont think I would run it that low again especially if working it but I dropped my speed to 90k for the last 20k. I was a bit nervous doing it as I have never ever run it that low before. Cheers Steve

Yeah that's around town and even highway driving it's only around the 950 mark never made it over 1000 but I have no idea how or what to look for when trying to fix the problem

Steve was that run on the sugar coated ULP or a premium ULP? I used to get on trips around 12-13 l on my old v6 90 but that would blow out up to worst 22l/100 on a central aus trip with camper in tow. Me current 1kz doesn't change much between 11.5 -13 running around ,up hill ,towing. Although i don't really worry too much just fill it up and drive but it is only my weekend/touring car anyway. I like my work ute a BA facon dedeciated gas about $35 for 500km average, but just love the wifes new Mazda CX5 awd diesel averaging 6.1l/100km over the 1st 5000km,and similar power/torque than a D4D, but better pr kw/kg ,the prado has not had much of a look at lately, sitting lonely in the shed.

before that a 1996 RV6 90S with lots of gear

Na Rags, straight unleaded. I would never use E10 shit in any of my cars. I have used 95/98 but only if normal unleaded not available. My old V6 90 auto grande best 12.2L per 100 (which I thought was good anyway) My old 1kz 90 (had 2 90's) ranged from 9.8 to 15, 9.8 was when I was trialing the difference in diesel usage at different speeds. To obtain 9.8 I had to sit on 90k even in 110z, screw that, I like to get where Im going to at some stage LOL. It hated hot humid days say after a storm and hot, it would use 15L per 100 freeway driving and hunting it along at 110, towing about the same 15L and the beach (stockton) wholy shit I reckon was worse then the petrol............ A good motor but better suited to a manual box, myn was auto (my opinion).......Cheers Steve

I know the V6's are thirsty and before buying one did all the research I could but I would of thought I'd get better! I'm the same if I need fuel I just fill it and drive on but if I can get better I will! It's all saving after all....

Someone suggested maybe the oxygen sensors need replacing but not sure how that will help..

Well Steve, the only thing I have in common with your thread is I was doing the same trip down to the snow and back this weekend gone, but Thredbo (the best) instead of Perisher.

I was pretty happy with my consumption considering I would have passed you on your economy run in the left lane.

                        Hey paddy
I was getting worse figures than that and Toyota couldn't fix it in 3 visits, MAF sensor cleaned exhaust checked no help. turned out the air filter hadn't been changed for A LONG time (or I've been playing in the dirt too much :-) and instantly saw some improvement. Big change when I put new fuel filter in, the old one was full of crap and the fuel that came out was almost black. Heaps better now and getting high 900/1000 around town and school runs. Got some new platinum plugs to put in when I get some hours free and hopefully see some benefit from them
                        Cheers
