  • My position with the 150 Prado and its problems.

I have read all the posts on the Prado 150 injection problems: I have a 2011 GXL prado, with around 5 years warranty left including the extended factory warranty. I totally love the capabilities that this 4WD has. It is comfortable, quiet, peppy, great on the hip pocket re: fuel, A pleasure to drive on the black top and outstanding in the outback. So far I have done 6500 K's on outback tracks with many being extreme. So, that brings me to the injector problem: I look at it this way, it really isn't my problem, its Toyota's: Since the Harro ruling all Toyota dealers have to fix all injector problems. So I have a warranty that gives me 5 years of peace with this problem. We can focus on the problems or focus on the positives and there are lot of positives. I have a lot of outback driving that I intend to take the Prado and I reckon it will do great. I like what "Davros" said to me in a PM.......In the last two years Toyota have sold 40,000 Prado's. Lets say 1000 had problems that only makes around 2.5% approx that have had problems. This injector problem has the potential of costing Toyota/Australia a fortune, not us!!!!! Well I hope this helps.

I agree, very small % of faulty vehicles to the numbers sold. Drive it, enjoy it, have great experiences it in. Be alert, not alarmed as they say.

Who really knows how many Prados have had problems. Many will have failed after the expiration of the factory warranty and won't necessarily be recorded by Toyota. Many will have been repaired through workshops other than Toyota. Some will have been repaired and paid for by owners who simply rolled over and accepted the lies by TMC as to the real cause of the failure. So the true number of failures may never be known. Certainly Toyota will not reveal the numbers. Talk to owners in rural locations, and travellers, like I do on almost a daily basis, and they all have either suffered an injector/fuel filter/agae issue or know of someone who has. And don't forget the poor Nissan, Mitsubishi and other makers who also use the Denso products with similar failures. It's a bigger problem than many think.

there is about 12 people at work with 150 Prado`s that I can think of at short notice, the only real issue has been tailshaft clunk on a couple of the early ones. The rest are happy and I am on my second one and I know others are going to get another one.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

I think people need to be wary of forum exageration, yes quite a few people have had issues, but many more have reported no issues at all. Personally, if were not on this forum I wouldn't even be aware of the issue, every D4D owner I speak to (mostly Hilux owners) tell me they are happy as Larry, and thats guys with anything up to 200k on the clock.

Personally I think the major problem with the injectors is the ridiculous price they charge for them. I can't believe that such a small part of the engine / vehicle can possibly be worth the asking price, otherwise a new prado would be a million dollar car.
If the injectors were a reasonable price and people were told to change them every 100 thou much like timing belts, then I am sure nobody would worry about it.

I look at the injector threads from time to time, but mostly I don't read them, if I did I wouldn't take the Prado out of the drive.

I wouldn't be so confident that Harro winning a court case is going to solve the problem either, if your circumstances are different to his then you might have to fight your own battle.

          Cheers Andrew

You might be right...... until it happens to you....

I've just heard back from Toyota Australia in regards to the Inner Guard Crack.... as expected they deny any responsibility and pushed the blame onto ARB. I've contacted ARB and they have been VERY helpful, so hopefuly we can get Toyota to reverse their decision, especially when they put the blame on as quoted "The cracking has occurred because the front cab mount has been modified when the bullbar was fitted. The squash tube of the front body mount was replaced which made this mount much stiffer. This introduced stress into the front guards eventually causing cracking" They went on to say this isn't the 1st instance they have seen this with that particular bullbar manufacturer.... What a load of BS !!!

I can feel the grey hairs coming now.....

And then you have my problem where my car is out of manufacturer warranty but covered by extended warranty giving a total of 6 years or 200,000km. The issue I have faced is that Toyota, who did the repairs, have to argue with the insurer about what gets fixed and what doesn't. Hence in my case I got a whole new short motor but they only replaced the 2 faulty injectors. Toyota don't seem to be too concerned at all.

New injectors at number 1 and number 4. Original injectors at 2 & 3. Service manager said they were all within .1 of spec whereas 1 and 4 originals were at almost 5. That doesn't mean much to me.

Are the 150's old enough to be out of warranty yet?

Point 1 is nearly out of range if that's all they have left in them. It's a new short engine and should be treated as such. Dave, unfortunately they are cutting corners, the insurance company, to try and save some bucks. Legally, they can do this because those old injectors are still in range, but not by much.
It would definitely be worth your while to install two new ones and get Toyota Service to enter the compensation codes while they are still doing the job.

Thanks but too late. I picked the car up last Thursday arvo and have already done 500 odd km. Should I not buy 4 of the new injectors and install them myself whilst everything is loose. I could probably sell the other injectors on-line. What is the part number for the new Denso injector?

That is good to hear Richo, although I thought that the suspension would have packed it in a long time ago...................I mean after carrying all that fuel around, that the V6's is so fond of.

OK, now I am a little confused. I thought the 120 injectors were different from the 150 series? Are you implying that the injectors just need to be coded in order to all work at the same specification? What's so difficult about undoing a few pipes and pulling the injectors? I promise I will be gentle.
