Mate, would have to be one of the best free camping spots we have found on our travels thus far. You are not supposed too but we stayed 10 days ( only supposed to stay 4 days) but as it was quite apart from the howling south easterly wind with only about 6 other campers we had the main beach and the inlets to ourselves.
The other free camp I liked was fletcher creek just north of charters towers, we stayed there 7 days. Caught red claw and black bream there as well.
