  • Difficult to Free Spool - Brand New Tigerz11 Winch

    Hey Guys,

After the latest dilemma with the 12,000lbs Hercules Tigerz11 Winch and the faulty free spool leaver as it was still under warranty, I upgraded to a 12,000lbs Grande Tigerz11 winch.

Earlier this afternoon I pulled apart the end of the winch to rotate it about 90 degrees so the clutch leaver would be in a convenient location. While I was putting it back together, I noticed that the end where all the terminals are, the black drum does not sit flush anymore (refer to picture below)

So after putting it back together just to test it, the drum would not spin freely while under 'free spool.' It just budges after using much force while pulling.

While I have the winch in two halfs, I test each side to see if it spins freely; and I have narrowed it down to the 'clutch leaver' section which is difficult to spin. It has sufficient grease on it; but it just wont budge.

Does anyone have any ideas? It would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    EasyCompany24

hi easy i had the same problem with my 12000 . the first time when it wouldn't freespool i hooked it to something and backed the car away . after you use it a couple of times it should free up . i think its just the brake system binding initially .
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

I have fitted a few including my own supercheap winch it is exactly the same motor/drum, same thing!
it seems pretty standard in these winches, from memory use will free it up, my problem is i dont want to use it.
