No FB for me, but speaking of people contributing to various websites, why does it only a select group of people are the main contributors to PP...

Currently (11/OCT/2012 at approx. 12:30pm in Perth), there are 410 users (57 members and 353 guests) online. That's out of a total of over 17,000 members! Given that, I appreciate probably 16,000 haven't posted anything in the past 3 months.

From my observations, I reckon there is a core group of about 30 or so members who do most of the posting on here, which tells me one thing - that we have a lot of people sucking the information out of PP, but not giving back by 'pissing on the tree', so to speak.

I'm at a bit of a loss to explain it, but why are people so afraid to post on here? Similarly, how can PP be covered in the 'urine' of more?

Hmmm.., maybe I should have started a new thread...

Ironically, I bet it will be the usual suspects who post on this topic... Hahaha.

          Madkore I agree with you..
I think one reason is people are too negative, sure some people say and do stupid things on here, but there's no need for negative comments, it just discourages new people from joining the conversation.

To use your analogy I offer the following:

Lets assume the tree is a lemon tree so the urine is beneficial to the tree.
Some people are horticulturalists and take pride in growing the tree (contributing valuable advice).
Some are consumers and simply want the lemons. This creates further demand for the lemons and a sense of reward for the horticulturalists.
Some are admirers of the work of the horticulturalist, but don't want the lemons, they create a sense of demand (number of users) but really do little more than admire the beauty of the well cultivated tree.
Some think the tree is an orange tree and inspect fleetingly (Nissan drivers)
Some that have enjoyed the lemons, take it upon themselves, after a while, to plant their own tree and develop their own ideas, these are the ones that move from consumer to horiculturalist.

Society (the forum) needs all types of people and the society (or farm) will grow. Those that stop contributing will be replaced by new contributers. The basic fact is if too many were contributing the information would overload and trusted advisers would actually grow thin amongst the sheer numbers.

Finally, there is one more group, describe that group as you will, but they are the ones that create a sense of fun, sometimes cross the line and offend without meaning too, but also can be serious when they need to be. I see them too as necessary to the community to create a fellowship, a bonding and other important parts of a community in the forum. They are the fertiliser that keeps the farm rich. Its that or i'm just wasting everyone's time with a few thousand annoying posts with a scant distribution of valuable information here and there

                          MLC,

Spending my younger years in my parents Fruit and Veg business I can relate to your philosophical Lemon BS. You have clearly made a strong, tangy and at times acidic point but never the less accurate. A lemon tree (PP) can be a very strong tree that can produce fruit (valuable advice) all year around. It can be grafted to produce all kinds of sweet juicy citrus fruit off the one tree but does need fertiliser and water (input). To pick the fruit it takes many hands working together (PP users).

Let’s not be afraid to use other forms of communication such as FB as long as it is done well. I agree with glen_ep, ‘quote’ “surely we'd prefer to have ONE official Facebook page which the PP authorities approve of”.

With FB you can take it or leave it but if it is to be use it must properly reflect the "Pradopoint" name.

Just my thought’s take it or leave it.

Seriously... wtf with all the lemon metaphors? Sometimes a bunch of bulls get into the lemon forrest, and having consumed a whole heap of grain, decide it is time to add some manure. While these bulls spread their manure around the place, some of the others in the paddock soon realise that this manure is not a fertilizer, or a metaphor, but is actually pure BS.

Now... wasn't t his thread something about Facebook???

I don't agree with you there JGill. In fact, I think that PP is full, in the majority, of many positive people and that any negativity is normally tongue-in-cheek. Sometimes it doesn't always come across that way, but if you read enough posts from the same user, you tend to work out that they do in fact mean well.
