I am the brother organising where we are going and the plan so far is to stay at harrietville on the Thursday night after leaving work. Head out on the friday morning do Blue rag then com down Basalt Knob Track into Talbotville and spend the night there then the following day head to Wonagatta(maybe via the dargo pub if people need fuel) where we have stayed before then on the sunday come out through mansfield any ideas of what we should do. We did harts spur track last year when we went to wonagatta and that was very nice.

Blue Rag is no problem with a stock 150. In fact we passed a couple of Jeeps who laughed at us on the way down and couldn't believe we'd just been up and back (say no more!).
Dtroy77, we did similar trip to you last Easter, based at one of the camp grounds near Dargo. I hadn't had anything done to my Prado then and managed it all fine. Basalt Knob Track down into Talbotville could be very testing if it's wet - a brilliant track though, with fantsatic views, and some steep drop-offs/switchbacks in a couple of places.
Mt Ewen Spur Track & Farm Track NW of Dargo are quite good, and there are some good tracks on the NE side of the Dargo river - Murdering Spur Track, Twiggy Track a bit further North.
It's a beautiful area and sure you'll have fun! I'm very envious!!

Hi Paul1972,
If you need to ask about gears I feel obligated to recommend that you get more experience before going there. On the very last steep climb there's a turn and a huge drop off on the left hand side (500+ metres). A mistake on this section could easily be fatal.
To answer the question anyway, I'd say 1st gear with slow momentum, it's not a race. Pressure depends on your tyre type and profile; 25 PSI should do the trick with most LT construction tyres. If you don't have LT, don't go there - it's not the kind of climb you'd risk a tyre blow out on.glen_ep - engineered, 4" lift, 33" 255/85R16, lockers, 4.88 ratios www.pradopoint.com.au/showthread.php?17237 www.youtube.com/user/glenep www.fb.com/groups/ToyotaPrado90

I just got back today and being an absolute novice found this track challenging. I did this with 2 other prados and we all agreed that it was diffcult for the last bit and a lift you would have been an advantage. Stock types were not an issue and we had 18 psi. I must admit the prado performed great and did the trip from harrietville to Mansfield without issue but if iwere to do a similar trip i would love some extra clearance.
