  • Anyone Try the Prahna 12 Volt Welder?

    Mates,

    Has anyone tried using this??
    12 volt Welding Kit

I am planning an expedition down into Mexico. A lot of my mods are made and held with welds. My best mate Croz who does all my welding is coming along and I thought this may be worth crying in the recovery gear and tool kit.

    Whadya think??

I have to say many a road side repair has been done using a similar setup, however if you have the correct equipment it would make it so much easier.

Fortunately I haven't need to use the twin 12V system as a welder however, so I can't comment on its ease of use, but its got to be better than nothing, especially if you have someone that can weld on hand.

Don't forget to post the pics of your trip

    Cheers

I searched the I-net and didn't find any in the US, just the OZ Piranha.

I will look harder, but I might need your help to get one "up above".

BTW, I like the simplicity of the Piranha setup; = < $'s & < wasted space just in case i never need it, but there when I need it.

Really its just some jumperleads & welding rods.....perhaps your mate could try some welding this way & he could tell you if its a goer or not.

Google led me to this links about the Prihna welding kit
                  http://www.piranhaoffroad.com.au/pro...ccessories.htm
It is sold by this lot http://www.extremelimitsoffroad.com.au/prod311.htm for $A315. That's a bit pricey for me. I have seen a description of a set-up recommended by Ron & Viv Moon which uses jumper leads and muti-grips.

Roothy from 4wd monthly magazine used it ages ago on his bent bullbar on Milo. Just 2 jumperleads, one 12 volt battery (removed from car) a welding rod and a welding mask, made from something he had in the 40. I have it here on dvd somewhere. Its really simple.

Remember guys that batteries are very explosive, so any welding should be done far away from them if possible.
