  • Getting rid of the damp smell

    So as the title says...

For those who have read the embarrassing stuck moments thread, you will have seen my efforts yesterday afternoon.

Some water got inside and now to prevent the missus from telling me we aren't going through water any more , i will need to get rid of the damp smell...

I have bought one of those damp soak things that you put in wardrobes.
I figure i throw that in the car and leave it closed up tomorrow and it should take most of it out.

Then to clean the carpet, i am going to get the car professionally detailed with a carpet and seat treatment, so i am hoping that will take care of any odour problems as well.

Who else has had to manage this and what tips or tricks do you have as i am sure this will not be the last time for me or others.

    Been there and done that....

There is heaps of soundproofing under the carpets. This is where the water sits, not in the carpet. The carpet can feel pretty well dry but underneath it is soaked.
Easy test - Just pull a couple of the trims where you get in and stand on off and curl your fingers under the carpet and feel.

Then once you find it is soaked, pull all the plastic trims and middle seats out and the front seats out (don't have to physicall take them right out as you can move them back and forth till the slack in the wires are taken up and get enough slack in the carpet) , lift the carpet up and stick a blow heater under pointing in all different directions for about.......2 days and then it will be all OK again !!

      Damien,
I did it a couple of weeks ago and ended up taking all the seats and Interior out as all the water was in the sound proofing then i let it dry out for a couple of days coz i went up north on Business when i came back it was all dry and it didnt take all that long to put the interior back together, Check out my pics on my photo web page. Cheers Matt

so did you get it dried out and smelling reasonable? Febreeze spray might help with any lingering odours

Yep, all dry and no smell.

I live to drive through mud another day

There was not a lot of water in the first place so that helps.
