Unfortunately the short answer is no, you can't fit front recovery points with the ARB bullbar. The ARB bar has two towing loops but they are NOT recovery points. If you look at AJ120's build thread you will see that he modified his bar to fit recovery hooks and at least one other person has 'beefed up' the ARB loops. For us mere mortals there isn't much we can do

Probably true Brett but in this case (fitting recovery points) it's not needed

To be honest, most people just use a bridle either onto the ARB loops or (if it's a later 120) onto the tie down points.

If you are going to modify the ARB mounting system (and loops) then I recommend you do it before fitting the bar otherwise you will probably have to take it off again to do it. Talk nicely to Andrew (AJ120) and he might help you out with this (Sorry for volunteering you Andrew - just going by your earlier offer )

If you have a look at your chassis you will see it is full of holes lol and some are pretty big (25mm) I'm guessing they will be using M14 or M16 bolts so the hole wouldn't be any bigger then 18mm for a M16 bolt. Personally I don't see a problem with them drilling to holes at the rear of the chassis but that's just me

Sorry trekkie but that not quite correct, Paul has a 150 not a 120 so the Outback Ideas (and similar) recovery points should fit with ARB deluxe bar on the 150 series.

                Cheers Andrew

Oops, sorry about that - I forgot he said it was a 150

I did consider welding them onto my rear bar - a friend of mine has that on his store bought rear bar but having already bolted my recovery points to the chassis I decided not to bother.

Everything4wd, Cranbourne Vic have front recovery points that fit the ARB bar. They sell via eBay. My rig build has a couple of photos.

You got me all exited for a few minutes there Steve, thinking you meant for the 120 - I was reading on my ipod so didn't have your signature line to see you also had a 150

Very nice build thread by the way.

I was just looking through the training material for the accredited 4WD course I did here in WA and the advice is much along the lines of SA.

Competency Unit SRO DRV 001B/01d says 'The use of a tow bar as a recovery point is not recommended'. They recommend two recovery points bolted to the chassis front and rear and a bridle.

Funny thing is they actually demonstrated using my Prado as the vehicle being recovered as I was the only one who had rated recovery points fitted (pre bull bar days). They had a bridle on the front of mine but for the recovery vehicle they used the tow bar (against their own recommendations).

They do a 120 version but I don't know if it fits with the ARB bar.

Just dropped my car off at Everything4wd to get some work done and spoke to them about the recovery points for the 120 and the ARB bar. They stated that the last 120 they did they fitted the 150 recovery points to as they fitted better and spread the load better. Having a look at the two in the store I can see why. If you are interested it would be worth giving them a call.
