i dunno if anyone has posted this , but i couldn't find anything . are your plastic headlights going hazy or opaque ? then why not try " NEW TOOTHPASTE " and no i don't mean in your mouth . my old man sent me one of those 10 great ideas emails . one of them suggested using toothpaste to polish the plastic . i was REALLY bored and it was a bit early to get on the suds , so i tried it . and bugger me it worked . a little bit of damp cloth and bloody toothpaste . no having to buy a $30 -$70 polishing kit , and your headlights smell minty fresh and will have less decay .

This is the closest thread I could find.
    http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...adlight-Polish

I have heard of using tooth paste before but have never tried it cos my headlights don't need it yet.

I also read on the internet that the plastic has some form of a UV coating on it so once the headlights have been polished, the UV coating goes with it as well and it will be up for another polish soon. Not sure how true this is so we'll revisit this thread in a year

In our trade....some labs do use certain toothpastes to hi shine dentures to a blrillant shine gloss look...ive tested it and even though i do not use it myself in our lab i can confirm it not only works but works well!

For my 120 series i just hit it with "1st cut" car polish every now and then and it brings it up to a crystal look...tooth paste is basicaly the same consistancy....stay away from gel or coloured types...stick to white (toothpaste) hehehehe

It also leaves your headlights with a fresh breath and is best followed up with some floss to get into those 'hard to reach places' and then mouthwash to clean it off. Also, would you recommend using mine or my wife's toothbrush to clean the covers with?

Seriously though, toothpaste is a fine abrasive, hence how it cleans your teeth. I have also heard of using toothpaste on glasses/sunglasses to remove scratches.

I have heard of this before but have never got around to trying it. Good to hear that it actually works though, will give me more motivation to try it myself

Brasso or Silvo work well too. Very fine abrasives.

My father was a mechanic in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Back when MG's (and other rag-top cars) were in vogue he used to do the toothpaste thing on the rear plastic windows to restore them. I've used it on non-coated helmet visors with success, too.

I have used ordinary car polish before, brings them back to looking like new but as amts said, it does remove the UV coating so you will have to keep doing it or buy one of the restoration kits and use the UV coating that is supplied.
