  • So so close, but yet so far.

I had all but convinced my wife to get a snorkle fitted to our(her) Prado.
Especially with the real cheap prices I found online recently and I explained they can slightly decrease petrol consumption.

Then she spotted the template and saw the DIY links I found.
Well that put an end to that.
"Your not going put put a dirty great hole in the side of MY beautifull car"!
"What if I want to take it off"?
How did she think the air got to the air cleaner from the snorkle ???

Hmmmm what could I say to that.

Looks like I have to work on getting the lift, bash plates and rock sliders instead.
Next job is to make a water cover for the bonnet and bullbar :-(

Tell her that it is well documented in PP that Prados without snorkels are 13x more likely to develop cracked inner guards, which are significantly more expensive to fix. If she says, show me where it says that. You say, well you manage to find the DIY snorkel thread, so Im sure you are more than capable to find the relevant thread. While she beavers away, you head out to the shed and install the snorkel.

Get your keys out and put a big scratch along the gaurd where the snorkel will cover it, then it will be cheaper to fit the snorkel than repaint the gaurd!

        Now, that's good lateral thinking

As has been said many times here before, its easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.
Man up and just fit it while she's out shopping.

Heres how you go about it:
Simply explain to her that if she ever wants to sell the car you can just get a new wing, if necessary take her out to the car and point out all the bolts saying 'see dear, we can just bolt on a new one one day'.
Now go on to explain how not having a snorkel not only means your very expensive engine is safe from water ingress and that having a snorkel puts the air intake up away from the ground hence picking up the cooler, less dusty air which is better for the engine and saves more money by making the new air filter last longer.

I'll keep working on it. I was so close.
I like the car key idea, but I could see myself sleeping in the car for a long time afterwards
Maybe after our Chistmas adventure I'll have more luck.

I would prefer Chriso57's idea. But it's important that you and your wife respects each others descitions, my wife would not say anything as long as we can easily absorb the cost, i do the same for my wife so everybody happy in the end.

I had OME fitted about 4 months ago, with permission of course, after all it is her car. Really the only time I drive it is on holidays or to put fuel in it as it hurts her hand. Cut to roll eyes.
Anyway she came out the next day to drive it and screamed from the driveway to me inside get out here pointing to the snorkel on the front of the car. he he he.
Explained I got the OME and snorkel for the price of OME alone at some places. True story.

Buy her a little Hyundai or similar shopping trolley, flex your muscles and tell her to stay the f&*^ away from your Prado.

I started talking about going 4wding in my wife's Prado (which has already been given the name "Princess" by her and the kids) and once she'd seen a couple of the DVD's from 4WD Action, SHE decided that we weren't doing any of "that stuff" until we had a propper bullbar and snorkel !! I't didn't take much extra convincing to get the lift as well.
