  • Tigerz11 12,000lb Grande Winch - Regrease required?

I've just purchased a Tigerz11 12,000lb Grande winch with Dyneema rope and have read a few reports that re-greasing is required. I'm hoping some fellow PPers could confirm if this applies to the Grande or just the cheaper Hercules model.

I also had a look at the Ridge Ryder from Supercheap which looks the same as the Grande apart from the control box. I asked the guy at Tigerz11 about the similarities and was told the internal motor and gearbox are different. I have no way to verify that but ended up going for the Tigerz11 as the solenoid/control box are better, the warranty is longer, and it comes with a wireless remote as well as the corded one.

Now for the joy of fitting it for which I have started a separate thread in the 150 section.

I had to turn the gearbox of my two speed Tigerz11 winch and ended up re-greasing and re sealing it.

What grease did you use Shan? Did you install the winch yourself?

That was handy! Did you install the winch yourself? TJM have quoted me around $300 for fitting.

I could just squeeze my winch without removing the bull bar. If you have enough space to get it in it's not a hard job.

I'm told it can be done by removing the grille, sounds easier than removing the bar anyway.

I have no idea how it's done in a 150. Getting the winch in place was the hard bit for me.
Turning the winch, wiring and stuff is easy. I had to use longer bolts where the fairlead goes.

Would it not be easier to lift the winch up from the bottom of the bullbar?

That's what I did for mine Andrew, but it was very close.. specially with lip of the bar and the AC pipes

That's what I did as well - takes a bit of 'jiggling' to get it in but not too bad. It helps if you have someone to put the screws in whilst you hold it in place though.

On the grease question - as Shan said, you will almost certainly have to rotate the gearbox, so take the opportunity to have a look and see if you feel it needs re-greasing.

Thanks all for your input. I will have to see how it goes with lifting from underneath, 28kgs of winch suspended above my head is not an appealing prospect.

Just run the cable up and through and anchor it off and let it self winch up! LOL.

Now that may be how they do things in Timor Leste Sol but I doubt that's a recognised winch installation technique :-)

                              Hi Shan,

What did you use to reseal the control box? Or was it just the winch you resealed?

Somehow the o-ring got broken in a couple of places in my control box. Tigerz11 told me just to silicone it up and do the screws up real tight.
