  • People with climate control aircon any issues ??

Hi was just wondering if any body with climate control air con either in GX's with option pack, late 07 upwards in GXL, or VX or grande's are having the same issues in regards to not been cold enough or is every one happy with their aircon been nice and cold ?? Thinking of updating my 05 GXL to either the same year in a VX or going to an 07 upwards in GXL (series 2) that is running the factory fitted dual climate control aircon. Want rear air now. Had it in both old 90's (both grande's) and starting to miss not having it especially with the little one in the back. Any replies either good or bad would be appreciated...........(not interested in the grande's in regards to buying one)............should also mention my current prado just has normal air not climate control...Cheers Steve

Check out the air con cabin filter - the one behind the glove box.

The climate control is the main reason we sold the 2005 Prado and got the 2009. Its pretty good, only complaints are that when outside temp is around the same as set temp inside it can be a bit hit and miss, adjust a degree or 2 and it works well then.

Other problem is when the Missus gets in on a cold morning and thinks it wil warm up faster if she sets her side on max and leaves my side on 23 degrees, a degree or 2 in difference from each side works OK but it doesn't work with such a large difference. I tried expalining it will not heat up any quicker as the engine is still cold but that doesn't seem to register

Otherwise happy as a pig with it.

      Cheers Andrew

I needed to re-gas my AC when I bought it and since then the temp is nice and cold.
I don't think the degrees really work or that could just be me wanting the good ol' blue/red slider back
                  Cheers, Leon

Got to admit, we don't tend to work off the degrees, we just push it until it reads COLD and leave it that way until the temp is down to a comfy level, then set it at whatever it is reading

I have mine set to 21 and it is comfy unless it is a really hot day 35+ when I might drop it down to 20. Pays to have undercover parking at home and at the office

Just started to use the rear air this year for our 2yo. Have it set on auto and I just reach back and turn the switch on and off as required.

This is one of the things I miss off my 90 series... my 1998 model had controls in the front for the rear AC as well as on the back of the centre console. Strange what they decide to get rid of between models.

The rear AC is used for keeping the kids cool... but also... means the fridge doesn't have to work as hard to keep the beverages cold as well
                        Cheers, Leon

The only issue we have had is the temp will be set at say 20 degrees but will blow warm air that is obviously hotter than 20 and also happened in reverse where temp is set at say 23 degrees and will blow obviously cooler. This has happened a few times not one off's. Toyota couldn't find anything wrong as naturally it doesn't happen when booked in. Aapart from that we don't really use it as true climate control. We just turn it up and down as it suits. The rear air is a bonus though for the kidlets.

I guess Mr T. woke up to that idiotic oversight, the 150 rear air can be adjusted from the dash or the rear console.
