  • In Car Camera

Gooday all, was just wondering if any body uses an in car camera in any of their vehicles and what they think of the brand they have, any pluses or minuses or whish they had bought another brand. I'm thinking of getting 2 of these

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120949538...ht_4091wt_1344

one for my prado and one for the wifes car. I wouldn't have a clue in regards to all the specs this one is advertising wether they are good or bad ????? Maybe some one with some camera/electronics can also comment on wether this brand seems ok or not ................Cheers Steve

I bought this model a while ago. It has come down a bit in price since then and more models have been added to the range.
Also found this company very good to deal with. They are based in WA

        Hi Steve,
I have had mine for approximately 18 months now and have not had any problems at all. I have it operating virtually all the time, even when it is parked in the driveway at home. I have not done any trips outback so any dust encountered has been the usual weekend off road and weekday city stuff.
Quite a few hot days over that time but the unit seems to handle it OK.
I also quite like the operating software that is bundled with the package.

Not at my PC at the moment but the Blackvue you have linked to looks to be the MK 1 version. They say they have resolved the heat and dust problems (and improved the spec) with the MK 2. Look up Blackvue on eBay and you will find the MK 2 version - you can tell the difference by looking at the lens area, the MK 2 is square. I haven't got one but it's on my wish list. I have one of the cheap ones and it's pretty good but I sometimes have to press the reset button as it can lock up.

I 'm at my PC now and looked at the link to Amazon and found the following review:

                  http://www.amazon.com/review/R1Z3SWG...R1Z3SWGO9X0PJT

Seems the guy had problems with both the MK 1 and MK 2 and no warranty if purchased direct from Korea - I guess eBay would be the same?

This place has three models of the Navig8r at what appear to be good prices.

I haven't ever dealt with them, just came across them a few days ago when my father was looking for a dash camera.

I've bought from them before. No issues and prices were good.

I've hardwired a Blackvue DR400G-HD II to my 2nd battery. Runs very well and does what a dash cam should. Only problem is that it gets pretty hot when operating and reading from other owners, in time the heat can cause the video colour to become distorted. Mine has been running for a couple of months now without any issues (even during Melb 40 deg + heat).

If you want to compare video quality to a go pro 2, I'd say hands down the go pro is far clearer.... but again a go pro isn't designed to be a dash cam so it wont be able to give you what a blackvue can.

Will add some pics if I get a chance.

                        Cheers,

I know several PP members happy with the digoption GPS/stereo head units

Just noticed they also sell a driving recorder black box - any one out there got one?

Would have to get the front camera option and SD card as well

I had been looking for a good quality dash cam too. It had to be set and forget and I wanted the camera to be small so not to attract the wrong attention. I ended up buying the Lukas 7300 on ebay for just over $200. Ordered on Sunday and delivered on Friday. I just installed it. The camera is tiny and the picture quality great. I have not hard wired it as yet to a permanent 12v supply. If it is, it will also start recording if the car is moved whilst parked. The manual is in Korean and when initially switched on so is the voice guidance. You can download the PC software in English which makes it easy to configure. Btw, the camera is so small as it uses a separate, also small, control unit. I routed the camera cable via the a pillar to the centre console.
