  • H&r wdh help!!

    Hey all

needing some help from anyone that tows with a WDH, i have the H&R V5 setup,

I have downloaded the instructions for hitching it up etc, but i'm unsure of how the snap up brackets should be correctly installed on caravan draw bar?

There is a 1/2 inch bolt that i assume should bolt into draw bar? To me it just doesn't seem enough for the stress that it will be under.

Anyway i'm a newbie to all this so would appreciate some advice and pictures if you got em

    cheers

That 1/2 inch bolt is only there the keep the hanger in position, its not load bearing. When your all hocked up and traveling, the hanger is kept in place by the u shape of the hanger siting over the A frame and the load of the bars trying to pull them to the ground.

    Hope this makes sense.

Ok thanks mate, but both bolts are screwed into A frame? correct?

So i have to tap a thread into my A frame for bolt to go into ?

No need to drill and tap.

The bolt is simply firmly tightened to cause sufficient friction to hold the hanger in place.

Just to confirm this is the item we're talking about?

          yep that's the item

So the space between the back of snap up bracket and A frame where bolt goes threw is normal?

I just firmly tighten bolt and that's it.

Thanks for help mate, appreciate it, glad i held back on drilling and tapping now

Yes to space is normal, I'd say its a one size fits most type of thing.

            Happy to help

              Gidday Zutta,

Set it up just like Pinko said. Try to have the brackets located on the drawbar so the snap-up chains are vertical when you put the bars in. You'll need to experiment a bit with the number of links to use, and if you find the ends of the spring bars are a bit close to the ground you can adjust the hitch at the towbar end in both height and angle to get more clearance down there.
